Ronin Reminder: Listening (not the lips) Sells
The ACT of active listening sells.
The ACT of being INTERESTED converts.
The ACT of showing your HUMANESS SELLS.
If you can soak that in...
If you can realize that in a world of AI bots...who don't have EARS and are NOT human...
People WANT a HUMAN to LISTEN to them more than almost anything else in 2023.
All the purty words that come out of a slick salespersons mouth or an AI bot, doesn't convert/sell/motivate like a HUMAN who is ACTIVELY trying to hear, understand and get to KNOW the person they are talking to.
EXAMPLE:
A prospect mentions in a reply that they've just moved to Orlando.
And your or an AI's response is...
"So, are you still interested?"
That response took a hot steamy turd all over the opportunity to CONNECT.
Will likely be ignored and rejected...and it SHOULD.
But...
What if we SHOWED that we LISTENED?
What if we SHOWED our humanity?
What if we got out of our HEAD trying to figure out something brilliant to say? and instead let them know we HEARD THEM and we'd like to UNDERSTAND MORE?
What if we put CONNECTION before CONVERSION?
"You moved:-0 Respect! I'd rather take a karate chop to my man parts than EVER move again. Orlando does seem tempting. I am still recovering from my last move and that was 10 years ago! Should we continue our convo in 2033? or is that too soon?"
That one short paragraph...
Will open most people up.
Openness and connection = safety and trust
Trust then leads to conversion IF it makes sense for both parties.
Isn't this good news?
We don't need to be masters of conversion.
We only need to be "okay" at being human and CONNECTING.
Most of us have way more experience at being human than being a master copywriter, star salesperson or the Warren Buffet of Investors.
We're moms.
We're dads.
We're husbands, wives and SOs.
We're already "ok" at connecting and listening in real life. (Mostly.)
That's all that is required as a Ronin.
Don't worry about WHAT TO SAY.
Lean in to listening and trying to understand.
Even when we get it wrong...
JUST THE ATTEMPT connects with people.
Kid: "Mom, I hate dad's guts."
Mom: "You hate dad's guts?"
Kid: "They taste terrible."
Mom: "I know. Would you like some ketchup?"
Kid: "Thanks, I don't think ketchup has got enough kick to cover the taste. Do we have some hot sauce?"
Mom: "Sure, honey. You're a good boy. After you finish dinner you can play some XBox."
Mom didn't need a "script", did she?
Now, I'd like to hear.
