Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly...
We talk about getting Ronin deals but there's not a lot about letting the crappy deals go...
So in short...
I walked away from this deal.
And I walked away from the deal for MULTIPLE reasons.
MAINLY because of the amount of energy it was COSTING me...
...and that was only a PREVIEW of what it would have cost me had I got INTO doing the deal I believe.
One big reason to walk away?
Is when you and the list owner just aren't on the same page.
A 200k list SOUNDS exciting and honestly, I was attached to the "idea" of such a big deal going down.
But in reality?
The situation was no different than if I dated a beautiful woman with a narcissistic personality disorder.
The deal may have LOOKED good...
...but it SMELLED bad.
And trying to put lipstick on a pig is NOT going to make the smell go away.
Comments like, "Tony, it's MY list, and I wanna decide who we promote..."
Or AFTER I had brought 3 product owners to the table and two of them got turned off after talking to her.
My takeaway, given her situation she's in "scare city."
I gotta walk away.
There comes a point when I feel a deal just has too much hair on it to shave off.
This was one of them.
Matter of fact, I'm not interested in deals I gotta do ANY shaving on.
I'm gonna keep this short because the lesson is:
"Investors aren't attached!...
...there are FAR too many deals out there that I WANT to do more so than I think I HAVE to do..."
I don't live in scare city.
The minute I closed the door on this deal?
and I landed a solid partner that's more than ideal and frankly could easily keep us busy over the next year. Ronin's don't beg.
We don't chase.
We serve NO master.
In your corner,
~ Tony
