Don't fish with strawberries!
This is an almost guaranteed way to open convos...
I don't know many product owners who don't want to talk about how to get more reach, more distribution, find BRAND NEW markets, get new users, customers, etc...with no time, money, energy risk to them.
Ask them if they're open to discussing taking their "baby" (product) to a new market and you'll get so many replies and coffee dates it will make your head spin.
Specificity helps...(but with this angle it's not quite as important...)
Made-up example:
"I notice your widget 3000 isn't in Walmart. I don't know for sure if I could get you in, but I've got contacts in the purchasing department. Would you be open to discussing it?"
Will LIKELY GET A REPLY!
Not as good, but works:
"I've figured out some niches you may not be hitting that I think would buy your Widget 3000 like crazy. I've got contacts already. Would you be open to discussing?"
Actual real example with program name changed.
"Online biz owners in my network go APE when they hear about land investing. Would you be open to discussing how we could bring your "Land Investor Kit 3000" to them?
What this person is NOT guaranteed to be interested in is:
That I'm an investor.
That I have a "special process" to sell their stuff.
That they really should be using email or snail mail marketing.
An audience multiplier campaign or any marketing technique.
I love all those things.
But fish like worms.
I hate worms. Blucky!
I like strawberries.
But I will catch way more nibbles using worms than strawberries.
Don't fish with STRAWBERRIES!
BTW: Great product owners usually have distribution too!
So the worm of getting their product out to new markets STILL WORKS.
Hope this helps.
Convos and coffee dates are pretty easy to get on.
Then if the coffee date(s) go well...
...propose a test with no risk to their own distribution first and you'll be off to the races!
The WORLD is OURS!
