So in class I have been recently teaching the 5 Ways to Transition in Roller Skating.
A transition I define as any motion on skates that take you from facing forward to backward or back to forward.
I think this is the clearest and most narrow understanding of transitions I have right now. You can see the 5 at the bottom.
Initially it was like 12 but then I thought about the core mechanics of each technique and realized there are strikingly few differences other than the minor details but what the body does as a whole is very similar.
Anyway here are my core 5. I want to make a video at some point in the Fundamentals curriculum to teach just these things.
