Rhythm Skating
Hi all! I've seen a few comments about wanting to learn rhythm skating or "rhythm skate moves" and about how difficult it is to to be on the learning journey for this without others. I wanted to open the conversation about what challenges you are experiencing with this. Is it wanting to increase understanding of musicality in general? Or how musicality is incorporated into skating? Is it specific moves, or a specific rhythm skating style you are trying to understand more? Curious to know. If there are specific moves or styles, but you're not quite sure what they're called, feel free to share video links for reference.

I’m noticing that as I attempt to learn to backwards skate, that no matter how much I try to lean back, my body seems to lean forward (whether I’m using the bubbles method or lifting my feet straight up). As a result I’ve almost always fallen forward. Any suggestions on what I can do to correct this? It’s more prevalent when I’m using the bubbles because as KJ’s instructions say, when skating backwards to use the windshield wiper method pressing from the toes (opposite of going forward and using the heels). I feel like I’ve gotten the hang of going forward using the bubbles. Backwards is a whole other issue. 🫣😩😩😩😩 And I’ve been putting in practice for the past 3 days straight (no days off)!

Just be yourself. …ill go first. 👋🏽My name is Knejie Allen. I’ve been skating for 10 years. Currently rolling in custom Riedell 3200s w and arius plate and probably some slick wheels (95A+). Im in Kansas City and own a Skate school, SK8SHOT Studios.

Time per session and skill
How long and frequent are your practice sessions? I’m averaging about 3 times a week outdoors, but I ultimately would like to skate indoors. Also sometimes I’m done after 30 minutes, sometimes it’s an hour. Just curious of others routines. I can’t wait until I feel confident to make a trip to the skating rink worth it. Also how long do you spend on each lesson? I’ve been practicing posture, forward and backward, and crossovers for over a week now.
Indoor wheels
Hello!!! I am looking to buy some indoor wheels for my Moxi skates. What brand/hardness do you guys use for the rink? I’d consider myself a novice skater with basic skating knowledge. I tried Roller Derby 4 years ago but I didn’t have the stamina lol. I was looking at the Riedell (yellow wheels)91a or the savants in a similar hardness? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
