One foot edges training
First I would like to say I have pretty good one foot blance, with my trucks on the looser side I can skate half my rink on either side with one foot. The problem i am having using both inside and outside edges on one foot, seen in styles like jb or STL. Now as an intermediate skater I am big on training with skates off, and exercising the muscles I use to skate at the gym. Doing this has taken months of the learning curve, and i was looking for suggestions for training my ankles to handle this sway off skates ? There's no stupid opinions I feel every one can benefit from this. 2 ex. Videos will be posted if unfamiliar with the styles.

I can only handle 20 minutes and then it is all I can do to lift a few arm weights and streeeeetch out. By the time, I stretch, I am all but ready for someone to throw dirt on me and say the last rites.
So much for skating... now what?
(This IS a win - you'll see). I've been skating at local basketball & tennis courts since last May no problem. People (including parks employees) have smiled and encouraged me, even said they like watching, I've never been in anyone's way nor done any harm, nor has my benign activity encouraged any other skaters to "invade" the courts... I can't GET anyone to join me. You probably see where this is going... some guy, a belligerent bully didn't just suggest maybe I should reconsider (as I attempted to skate on an empty tennis court) - he just hauled off and started threatening me and told me to leave immediately, shouting I was "going to ruin it for everyone!" I politely said I'd been skating there for almost a year no problem, done no harm, no one's said a word until that moment, but it only made him more insistent, loud and threatening, throwing in lots of "bros", etc. I left as he and his friends laughed, having won their little battle, defeating my attempted invasion, making me feel almost afraid for my life. I drove to some other courts but lots of people out for some reason; I guess spring break? I was really rattled, adrenaline pumping, and stopped by the police station nearby to ask an officer what his take on it would be. He was sympathetic but said he'd probably have to go with the what's on the signs, that wheeled things weren't allowed. Anyhow, cautionary tale - keep in mind there are people out there that refuse to live and let live, and they relish the opportunity to get in your way. This can be an additional challenge to skating. I'll look for a solution or work-around and let you know.

Hey all. It’s been a minute! Work has been kicking my ass! I haven’t been practicing much as I want to but today I made it a point to not only get on my skates but to record some of it. I practiced one leg balance skills, crossovers, open/closed book transitions (still struggling here) and what I THINK are backward crossovers (vide attached so you tell me). As usual I bring for your personal entertainment, my awkward and horrible skating! Don’t go too hard on the kid though. This was my first time practicing this technique. 😩

@Jay West Sooooo NOT horrible at all, King! You give me courage to try. I want to be like you when I grow up (at my big age of 44yo). You are doing all of the things!
Keeping social media in perspective.
I know you never get to see the hours others put into skating to get as good as they are online. Tough to not compare yourself when you've been out here 6-8 hours a week for 2 years and can't do half the things they are doing. Guess we gotta lock in the training lol.

Whew! That sounds so intense. I am a novice and I don't even compare myself to anything on social media. I'm a schoolteacher. My motto is, "Someday, I will be able to do that. If it is not today, that's okay, too." I think of the videos as INSPIRATION not COMPETITION.

I am a referee in training for Roller Derby. I have balance issues as well. I have started working out doing a 20 min balance workout using a BOSU ball. It is intense and it really does help. Sometimes you can find a bosu ball at ALDI grocery stores for low, low prices. I got mine from Walmart. It was $40. I hope this helps you. You are going to be GREAT.
