Luxury watch choices, Omega, Rolex or elsewhere?

I’d really like to hear thoughts on watches. I’m currently considering an Omega Aqua Terra but still on a journey through watch options. I started out looking at a speedmaster professional with a sapphire sandwich. The manual movement in that is so beautiful! However, I continued on and looked at the Seamaster 300 which seemed like too much of a dive watch for me. Something about the helium escape valve and dial design feels non-genuine for me since I am not a diver. It’s not that I won’t wear a dive watch, just maybe not that one.

I had been drawn years ago to a Rolex GMT II or Submariner. Which is unfortunate because now with the current fiasco that is the waits and dealing with an AD that I hear about. Forget it. Then with the prices of going grey market I’m not planning to try… Also, to me there is a stigma to Rolex that is good and bad (some what of a status symbol for some well, douches honestly) that I’m not sure I want to be associated with. Omega seems to fly under the radar more with the common man, and I’d rather be a touch more humble to all than give some the wrong idea, even if I’m buying it for me either way. Same reason I won’t drive some luxury car brands as it’s just personal preference not to look too flashy even if the Mercedes is $20k less than the new decked out truck it’s parked next to, people don’t see that. Anyway I digress, but that’s why I’m think of maybe a brand other than Rolex, even if the main reason is just ease of acquisition, if I’m honest. Am I wrong here?

I know that I just named the two most popular luxury watch brands and stopped there. So what am I missing that I should consider? I am familiar with other brands but I do like the two brands as they’re common and to a non watch guy appealed to me as an outsider considering a purchase.

I would like a white or black dial that can be worn more casual but also in a jacket and tie. I’ve considered just buying a cheap dress watch but I want something I’ll be excited to wear.

What am I maybe missing or not considering? Any thoughts or advice from watch guys would be appreciated’
