My dearest internet watch-and-fragrance weirdos, gather ‘round while I get misty-eyed and ridiculous.
Like half the dads in this group, my son and I usually communicate through a combination of time zones, carrier pigeons, and the occasional “u up?” text at 2 a.m. But this Thanksgiving? Miracle of miracles, the boy materialized on my doorstep like a majestic unicorn wearing sneakers. Naturally, I did what any self-respecting father does: I dragged him on an emergency retail mission titled “Operation Make You Look Cooler Than Your Old Man (Impossible, But We’ll Try).”
We raided my favorite consignment palace and the kid absolutely pillaged the place. Cashmere sweaters? Looted. Perfect selvedge denim? Annexed. He walked out looking like the love child of Steve McQueen and a J.Crew catalog.
Then, because I’m emotionally incapable of moderation, I doused him in fragrance like a proud mafia don knighting his heir: Ralph’s Club for daytime swagger, Montblanc Legend Night for when he wants to smell like forbidden midnight decisions. And, in a moment of pure paternal weakness, I unstrapped my beloved Pagani Design right off my wrist and surrendered it to the next generation.
Final coup d’état: he spotted one of my cowboy hats, tried it on, and… well, it’s his now. Possession is nine-tenths of the law, and the other tenth is “Dad, you can’t pull this off anymore anyway.”
So somewhere out there, my son is striding around looking sharper than a tack, smelling like danger and good decisions, rocking my former watch, and tipping my former hat at strangers. My heart is full, my wrist is naked, and I’ve never been prouder.
Happy Thanksgiving, you beautiful degenerates. Cherish your kids when they let you clothe and scent them; it doesn’t happen often. 🥲🤠🧥
