As many of you already know, the first rule of elegance is context-appropriateness — that is, choosing outfits that are in harmony with the setting one is attending. (Wearing a tuxedo during the day to walk the dog or take out the trash, for example, is hardly ideal.)
However, nowadays it often happens that we find ourselves surrounded by people who, let’s say, don’t exactly strike us as enthusiasts of classic elegance — or any form of elegance, for that matter — even when they are in undeniably formal or refined settings, such as someone wearing sandals to the theatre.
So here is my question: since elegance means being appropriate to both the context (a formal event) and the people around us (who are, almost everywhere, dressed casually), how do you personally navigate this dilemma? Take the necktie, for instance — the ultimate symbol of formality. When should it be worn, now that its use is increasingly fading from everyday life?
Have a good day😎
