This isn’t me- but it could be
My friend Dr Smith attends my Wednesday men’s group at the church. When I complimented him on his great Madras shirt he said “ it’s probably older than you are”. While that’s not true I couldn’t help but laugh. That’s a line I frequently use accurately. When I was an impromptu panelist on a zoom call with you fellas several chat responses from younger guys commented on my clothing being older than they: 1982 shell cordovan shoes; 1981 ties: even 1995 suits. This is a testament to the enduring capacity of Classic timeless menswear to show its value. Certain items simply never go out of style. On an aside I found 4 pair of trousers while inventorying the Harold’s warehouse in 1981. They were lined madras slacks that the coding on the tag showed them to be from 1966 ( already 25 yeas old at the time). Three of my buddies and I put on navy blazers and wool beanies (I found in the same warehouse of the same vintage) as a Halloween costume. Madras is one of those great items that never goes out of style. The real thing is made up of natural dyes that tend to get better with age.

6/7/2026 Sunday Service Followed by The Shamrock Club Meeting
This Sunday we move back to Regular Time in the Chuch Year which means the paraments are green. So today I wore my madras jacket which includes green in the pattern with brown trousers, a grey Winchester shirt and brown brogued derbies. To further accentuate the green on the alter I wore a green bow tie, green pocket square and a green and white fedora. (Please note that hat was only wore for the picture and not during the service.) After service, we went home and I took off my jacket and hat and made lunch. After lunch I put on that brown linen newsboy cap and left for the Shamrock Club meeting. It is always amazing how changing to things radically change the look of an outfit.

Color Combination and Seasonal Fabrics
This outfit is an excellent example of how thoughtful color coordination and seasonal fabrics can elevate business-casual dressing, especially in the South Texas heat. The deep navy Hart Schaffner Marx sport coat provides a strong, professional foundation, while the olive-green linen shirt introduces an earthy sophistication that feels relaxed yet intentional. The warm brown trousers create a natural bridge between the jacket and shirt, producing a palette that is rich, masculine, and understated without relying on high-contrast combinations. From a fabric standpoint, the ensemble is particularly well-suited for SATX weather. The breathable linen shirt allows airflow and comfort during warm afternoons, while the softly constructed jacket offers the polish of tailoring without the burden of excessive structure or heavy lining. Together, they achieve that elusive balance between looking sharp and staying comfortable when temperatures climb into the 90s. The footwear deserves special mention. The brown suede shoes introduce texture and visual depth while maintaining a relaxed elegance that complements the linen and soft tailoring. Suede often excels in business-casual settings because it communicates refinement without the formality of highly polished calfskin. The Invicta Reserve watch adds a touch of personality and presence. Its substantial design and warm metallic tones echo the earth-toned palette of the outfit, proving that accessories can make a statement while still supporting the overall look. What makes this combination particularly successful is that nothing appears forced. The navy, olive, and brown color story feels organic and timeless, while the mix of linen, soft tailoring, suede, and textured fabrics creates visual interest without becoming busy. For a business-casual day in San Antonio, where comfort is every bit as important as appearance, this outfit strikes the mark beautifully—professional enough for the office, relaxed enough for an outdoor lunch meeting, and stylish enough to transition seamlessly into an evening on the patio.
