5 years of teaching reflection

So, five years of teaching. As hard as it is to believe, I have been teaching longer than the amount of time I went to college. I think the most important thing is it gives me a purpose. Every day I walk through the doors of my school, I know I am where I am supposed to be. Teaching is not about simply conveying information, it is about the shaping of minds, and encouraging one's fellow human to be their best selves. Whether it be reaching into the historical past, learning the rich nuances of poetry, studying the intricacies of a cell, or solving a polynomial, etc, we are getting students to stretch themselves, and not just accept the world as is. By getting students to discover the meaning of the world, I have meaning in my life. There is no greater joy.
