Vibe Coding Is Just the New Spreadsheet

Vibe coding is not the death of software.

It’s the spreadsheet era with better UI.

We’ve seen this movie before.

A smart operator would build a spreadsheet package with formulas, tabs, maybe some macros, maybe some automation.. and for one person it felt incredible.

Inputs go in. Outputs come out. Boom.. "software."

Then they try to use it with a team.

That’s when reality shows up.

Things break. Logic gets weird. Edge cases pile up. Nobody wants to maintain it. It doesn’t really scale.

That’s what a lot of "personal software" is right now.

Not some magical new category.

Not the end of engineering.

Not the future replacing the past.

It’s the same pattern we’ve had for decades.. a non developer builds a narrow tool that works well enough for one person and mistakes that for a durable system.

And to be clear.. that’s fine.

Prototypes are useful. Proof of concept is useful.

Spreadsheets were useful too.

But eventually somebody still has to turn the thing into software that’s robust, secure, maintainable, and usable by more than one person without prayer.

Make whatever you want.

Just don’t confuse a clever prototype with a real platform.
