Me Vs. Me: The Ultimate Competition 💪
I’ve always thrived on competition, especially as part of a team. In the Fire Service, you’re surrounded by men and women who live for that competitive edge. 🚒🔥
You want to see us fired up?
Just tell us another station did a task faster—then step back and watch the race!
We’re all about being the best at what we do. There’s nothing like being “First In” at a scene. None of us want to be the crew that arrives last. And let me tell you, if you get there first in someone else’s district, there’s going to be some good-natured smack talking.
Competing With Others Is Great… But What About Competing With Yourself?
When you’re up against others, it’s easy to see where you stand. You’ve got people around you, times to beat, and scores to compare.
But when it’s just you...how do you keep that fire going?
How do you run your own race while staying driven to be better than the person you were yesterday?
How do you push through the tough days when you’re not at your best? And when you’ve taken time off...days, weeks, even years—how do you convince yourself to get back in the game?
This year, I’ve been on a mission to push myself harder and answer these questions...
I don’t have it all figured out. The truth is, I think the answer is different for everyone. But I’m diving into this journey, one challenge at a time, to uncover what works for me.
Because here’s the thing: Competing against others doesn’t mean much if you’re not also competing with yourself.
True growth comes from facing your own limitations and deciding to be better, for you.
How You Can Apply This:
➡️ Set Personal Benchmarks: Establish goals that are focused on your own progress, not someone else’s. Start small, track your results, and use them as benchmarks to challenge yourself over time.
➡️ Reflect and Learn: When you have a rough day, take a moment to analyze it. What went wrong? How can you improve? Use these experiences as stepping stones to grow.
➡️ Be Consistent: Even small, consistent efforts add up. Show up for yourself each day and commit to beating yesterday’s version of you, even if it’s just by a little bit.
➡️ Celebrate Wins: Remember to acknowledge and celebrate your progress. It can be as simple as hitting a new personal best or just showing up on days you didn’t feel like it.
What About You?
