We launched our socials two weeks ago today. TBH it feels like a year ago. Not going to lie managing social media is a literal full time job itself!
We made the commitment to post something on all platforms every single day and we’ve learned a lot of lessons in that short amount of time.
I figured I’d share what’s worked and what I’ve learned in doing this in this time. We don’t have a huge following YET, but we are getting new followers every day on all platforms but most importantly we have booked 4 jobs off simple organic posted content, not boosted or ad.
I AM NOT AN EXPERT. But I I can save someone the trouble and stress just starting that I went through then it’s a win in my book!
Discuss here what works for you if you have a different way of doing anything! I’m all ears. This is trial and error that I’ve found.
So where to start….
Film everything.
My business partner comes to every single thing we do. Quotes/jobs/equipment maintenance runs. EVERYTHING. We have a camera going constantly. Our top performing video was literally a blooper the camera caught with us screwing around after practicing an ad. If you’re a one man crew it seems weird but buy a phone holder or selfie stick and film. I know it’s weird but DO IT. It’s a pain but also set up a tripod and film yourself in the machine if you don’t have someone who will come with you. Film straight up and down with your phone, not sideways. It transfers to the most platforms that way!!!
Buy a good microphone-
I bought the Rode Microphone set from Best Buy and they’ve been Awesome. They were $105., they have cheaper ones and more expensive ones. You may think you don’t need a mic but I’m telling you the difference is night and day. Here’s an attachment that plugs into my phone and the mics work and are clear as far as 30 feet away. Also clear Audio inside a machine while running. Mics clip right to my shirt.
Practice with CapCut or another video editor
I use cap cut. It’s the first one I’ve found and I have just became familiar with it. Important *dont over edit* when you first start editing you’re going to want sick explosions and awesome graphics and all sorts of frill. I went through it too. It doesn’t work. We aren’t machine salesmen, we are selling a service to people who don’t care about the machine or crazy edits.
What do I use cap cut to do?
I use cap cut to string and combine multiple videos or clips together into one smooth piece of content. I like the CapCut transitions.
Adding a transition

From your edit screen click the circled white button between Clips to add a transition.

Transition choice screen looks like this. I prefer to stay with subtle left to right or flip over transitions. I want the process to be smooth not all over the place. Subtle zooms are great.
Adding my logo as an overlay
I brand every piece of content I put out with my logo on the video. It looks professional and makes a simple video Branded for you.

Adding a logo overlay
Make sure you have your transparent version of your logo downloaded or PNG version.
This keeps it from having a weird white or black box around the logo.
In CapCut edit screen click “overlay”

Make sure you’re at starting point of content
When you add overlay it’ll look like this

you can resize your image for your video and place it where you want. I use bottom right corner.

This bar allows you to pull your logo as far as you want in video. I’ll add it through the whole video other than my call to action page which as it already on there.
Overlays are also how I add before and after photos into videos or add motion shots onto the screen.
.note. If you want to add a video on top of you talking all you have to do is add the secondary video as an overlay and mute the volume on the overlay. Example:

I use CapCut to add text for names/details
In edit click the add text button

You’ll have all these options. Remmeber keep it clean and keep it simple. Less is more.

What I don’t use cap cut to do
-I don’t add wild edits. It’s tempting and you’re going to want to make highlight video edits. DONT. Save yourself the time. They don’t work
-I don’t add music from cap cut. We will get into it but I use each platforms music selection for videos.
-I don’t use AI to make videos. I use AI for ALOT but I don’t use cap cuts ai editor. It makes cool videos but again they’re not going to accomplish the goal we want here.
Now time to actually work the socials!
So we have our mostly done video Clip and we want to start uploading to socials. I could be completely wrong and if I am Jacob tell me lol
I feel like the different platforms want videos edited on their own platform. So it takes extra time but I add :
-on screen headings and text
-music and sounds
-voice overs
On the actual separate platforms. I know for sure Tik tok wants you to use their sounds and music. It could just be a coincidence but I feel like our videos do better when we upload this way.
Let’s go over adding a voice over
Voice overs are extremely effective and allow you to give good info while the onscreen content isn’t just you talking all the time.
In instagram click this button

Click the voice button and using your awesome new microphone, record your voice over!!!
For talking on screen I download the teleprompter app. It’s completely free and allows me to upload my scripts and film with an actual on screen teleprompter so it’s like I’m talking to the audience with my face looking at the phone.
I use this cheat sheet for making sure my posts are safe and content doesn’t get cut out from comments or task bars in different platforms

Example (nothing is covered up or not visible)
