Hey friends! Since we're THICK in the middle of summer at this point, I wanted to share a few quick reminders for our first timers training in these tough summer months for the first time.
- You're training for a fall race, not a summer race! What feels uncomfortable now will feel better once the temps drop, most athletes seeing their pace drop by at least a minute come fall time.
- Every marathon block is hard, but summer marathon training not only challenges the body but also challenges the mind. When everything in you is screaming to stop and you keep going, THAT is what marathon training is all about, and what will help you come fall.
- You have no frame of reference of what "good" long runs are supposed to feel like because you're experiencing it all for the first time right now!! So don't beat yourself up over the bad ones. We learn from every run, and I'm sure anyone in this group who has ran a marathon before can testify that you never remember the really good runs when you run a marathon - but you surely remember the tough ones you pushed through!
You're doing awesome! If you need support or have summer running questions, drop below!
