Yesterday marked day 75 completed of the 75 HARD program by Andy Frisella.
For those who are not aware, it is a mental toughness program designed to establish mental fortitude and discipline.
I had failed 19 times before I successfully completed my 20th go.
While a lot of people focus on 75 HARD, it is just one part of the larger "Live Hard" program that Andy has created.
These are some of the lessons I have learned from my journey starting back in December of 2021:
-SYSTEMS = SUCESS
Systems (habits can be a type of system) are a make or break for accomplishing tasks. When you create a system, you create a framework that doesn't require mental thought which create efficiency in your day. I created a system around my workouts (early morning, during lunch, immediately after work, or right before bed where my allotted time windows, a system around my water intake (1 liter first thing in the morning, 1 liter at lunch, a liter during my workout, and a liter before bed), a system for my food (simplified my nutrition to a handful of fast to make items that I rotate through and made sure to track), and a system for my exercises (found a program and followed it based on my goals). Systems free up your personal energy reserves to focus on more important and complicated tasks.
-MISTAKES/FAILURES ARE OKAY AS LONG AS YOU LEARN
Every time I failed I learned something. I learned a lot of how NOT to do things, and sought a new way to prevent future failures. A lot of systems I developed where created from my failures. So long as failures are not catastrophic and you learn from them, don't be afraid to fail your way to success.
-DONT. QUIT.
If you quit, NOTHING will change. If you keep attacking, there is always a chance for things to change so long as you don't repeat actions that led to getting the same undesired results.
-NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU.
As a man, no one is coming to save you or rescue you from your shitty life. YOU must be the one to build yourself up and create the life you desire. You may find some help along the way, but ultimately men must create the lives they want for themselves (and MOA provides a good framework in which to do so).
-WIN YOUR MORNINGS
The days that were the most difficult were the days I procrastinated until the afternoon to get started on what needed to be done. The days I "won my mornings" by getting a start on my water, my first workout, and reading were days I had continual wins stacked upon each other. I would get a win waking up on time, a win making my bed, a win getting a workout in, a win reading my 10 pages, and those wins would flood over into work and the rest of my day. If you start stacking small wins first thing, the rest of your day gets MUCH easier. How you attack your morning and the first hour of the day sets the tone for the rest of your day. WIN. YOUR. MORNINGS.
-MAKE FITNESS A PRIORITY. IT OPENS UP DOORS.
As my fitness improved, I noticed a correlation between becoming more fit and how people responded to me, especially women. When I first started out, I was 5'11" at 183 pounds with high-teens+ body fat percentage (skinny-fat). I am now 162 and sub 10% on track toward the "Brad Pitt FightClub" look. My arms fill out my shirts as well as my chest/back/traps with good vascularity and my chubby chin has morphed into a more defined and rugged jaw line. I get comments and looks from women (finding excuses to touch my arms, etc) more often which is a HUGE confidence boost. Don't do it for other people, do it for yourself and watch your internal dialog change as you notice your physical changes.
-Mental Clarity
Before starting this program, I had lost my mental edge that I had earlier in life, especially while in the Marines. I had really let myself go, and entered bouts of depression. I feel keen and sharp again, focused, aggressive to attack, etc... I feel like my old self again. I feel prepared to attack life and establish my goals. This program builds AWARENESS of your internal states and when the "bitch voice" makes its debut. You learn to fight that bitch voice and decide the man you wish to be. Your decisions leads to your actions leads to your results leads to the life and experiences you live.
If anyone has any questions about 75 HARD or about my experiences, post them below.
If you are looking for a challenge that will create a mirror for which to really view yourself and determine what you are made of internally, give it a go.
Last words of caution. It's called "75 HARD" for a reason. Shit is not easy. You will have to make sacrifices to accomplish it. Welcome to the gateway toward leveling up, gents.
