The Straight Story by David Lynch. 🎥
This morning, my Monday hike was cancelled. So, I replaced one pleasure with another: I watched The Straight Story by David Lynch. This beautiful movie resonates with my life for different reasons. I took care of my father during the last six years of his life, and our bond was very strong. The film also reminds me of the real-life adventure in Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley, where he travels across the United States with a makeshift trailer; it is the symbol of a free heart (I highly recommend this autobiography.) France is never very far away, as Alvin remembers the good spirits he drank there. To quote him: "I picked up a mournful taste for liquor in France." Another anecdote: He travels through different states on his John Deere lawnmower to see his brother. In France, there is a play on words about this. There is an old tractor brand called Massey Ferguson. In her song, Brigitte Bardot sang: "I don't need anyone on a Harley Davidson." This chorus was later adopted by the farming community with the slogan: "I don't need anyone on a Massey Ferguson." This movie is a little gem that reminds us that family is our history and we must not forget it. At the end, I cried just like the two brothers. I highly recommend this film—it will move you to tears! (Patrick inherited his father's Massey Ferguson tractor! ) I notice some gems I wasn't worth a stick of stove wood . = I was not worth a dime. I know to separate the wheat from the chaff and let the small stuff fall away .= it means to distinguish between what is valuable and what is worthless. BTW If you have the time and inclination to watch this film, please leave also your comments. Thank you for you attention ! That's all folks ! ❤️ A massive thank to @Serge Gray ✨
