Don't Sweat the Small Stuff ... reading stuff with Mila 13/100
📖 Book Don't Sweat the Small Stuff … and It's All Small Stuff by Richard Carlson, PhD. Synopsis: Simple ways to keep little things from taking over your life. The book consists of 100 short articles -- we'll go through them week by week. This week’s # 13: Become More Patient Here's what you need to do: 1. Read it yourself, take time to reflect on it and make notes. 2. Join the live reading on Wednesday. We'll read and listen to the article together, line by line. 3. Share your thoughts. Keep your answer under 4 minutes. Be clear, and focus on expressing your ideas about the topic to practice real English speaking. No debates, just sharing thoughts. Article # 13 Become More Patient The quality of patience goes a long way toward your goal of creating a more peaceful and loving self. The more patient you are, the more accepting you will be of what is, rather than insisting that life be exactly as you would like it to be. Without patience, life is extremely frustrating. You are easily annoyed, bothered, and irritated. Patience adds a dimension of ease and acceptance to your life. It's essential for inner peace. Becoming more patient involves opening your heart to the present moment, even if you don't like it. If you are stuck in a traffic jam, late for an appointment, opening to the moment would mean catching yourself building a mental snowball before your thinking got out of hand and gently reminding yourself to relax. It might also be a good time to breathe as well as an opportunity to remind yourself that, in the bigger scheme of things, being late is "small stuff." Patience also involves seeing the innocence in others. My wife, Kris, and I have two young children ages four and seven. On many occasions while writing this book, our four-year-old daughter has walked into my office and interrupted my work, which can be disruptive to a writer. What I have learned to do (most of the time) is to see the innocence in her behavior rather than to focus on the potential implications of her interruption ("I won't get my work done, I'll lose my train of thought, this was my only opportunity to write today," and so forth). I remind myself why she is coming to see me -- because she loves me, not because she is conspiring to ruin my work. When I remember to see the innocence, I immediately bring forth a feeling of patience, and my attention is brought back to the moment. Any irritation that may have been building is eliminated and I'm reminded, once again, of how fortunate I am to have such beautiful children. I have found that, if you look deeply enough, you can almost always see the innocence in other people as well as in potentially frustrating situations. When you do, you will become a more patient and peaceful person and, in some strange way, you begin to enjoy many of the moments that used to frustrate you.

🌟 How to Make the Most of DDM
Here are some powerful tips I learned from Coach @Shane Peterson that can really help you improve your English and get the most out of DDM. 🧠 How do we remember new words, expressions, and idioms? Coach Shane says: "If something is useful or important, it will come back. It takes two or three times but it will come back." You might not remember it the first time—or even the second time—but after seeing it two or three times, it will stick. Forgetting is normal. Don’t worry about it. ❓ What if we don’t feel we did well on an assignment? Should we dwell on it, or move on? Coach Shane’s advice is simple: "MOVE ON" One great thing about DDM VIP is that you’re forced to move on to the next assignment—and that’s a good thing. My approach: - Finish the dictation - Watch the answer video and notice your mistakes - Watch the explanation video - Move on to the next assignment - Don’t dwell on the previous assignment That’s all. ⏭️ Should we skip assignments? In DDM, we have 5 assignments each month (Seinfeld, News, Seinfeld, News, Seinfeld). Coach Shane recommends: - ❌ Do not skip any Seinfeld assignments — they are all connected. If you skip one, you may not understand the next one. - ✅ You can skip other assignments if you REALLY have to—but try not to. Even if an assignment feels boring, there’s always something to learn. You might be surprised. 🎯 Want to master English? To master anything, including English, you need three things: 1. Quality 2. Consistency 3. Mistakes In DDM also PIRF: - We are given quality - Our coaches take care of mistakes - Consistency is up to us When Coach Shane talks about CONSISTENCY, he means EVERY DAY. If you are CONSISTENT and DETERMINED, you’ll be amazed at how much your English can improve. 💪 Final reminder: Don’t dwell on mistakes. Analyze them, learn from them, and move on. Don’t skip what truly matters. ✨ I hope you find this post useful and encouraging on your English learning journey.
