IBM Streamlines HR with AI — 8,000 Roles Impacted

IBM recently transitioned 8,000 HR positions as part of a sweeping internal automation initiative; not due to budget cuts or performance issues, but through the adoption of a powerful AI-driven platform.

Apparently, IBM was able to use this saving to hire people in other roles!

At the heart of this transformation is AskHR, a virtual assistant built on IBM’s own Watsonx Orchestrate technology.

This system now handles:

94% of HR tasks, including payroll, vacation management, document processing, and even employee offboarding
Providing a reported $3.5 billion in productivity gains and a 40% reduction in HR operational costs.

IBM not only implemented the technology internally — it is now offering this enterprise-ready solution for other customers!
