A quick mindset shift that will change your 2026

Great discussion last night, friends! I mentioned that I’ve been re-reading Atomic Habits, and Chapter 2 this morning hit me square between the eyes again—the idea of the three layers of behavior change:

Outcomes (what you want)
Processes (what you do)
Identity (who you believe you are)

James Clear makes it clear (heh, pun intended) that real change doesn’t start with goals or tactics. It starts with identity.

“The real question is: Are you becoming the type of person you want to become? The first step is not what or how, but who.”

That’s where I think this community has a quiet superpower.

Many people say, “I want my land to make money.”

That’s an outcome.

But outcomes are fragile if they’re not supported by identity.

What I believe we’re really doing here in Your Land Is Gold is something deeper:we’re learning to see ourselves as land developers.

Not “someone who owns land.

”Not “someone who’s thinking about glamping someday.”

But the kind of person who develops land into productive, income-generating assets.

Once that identity starts to settle in, everything else begins to line up more naturally:

Talking to planners
Learning zoning
Running numbers
Designing guest experiences
Solving problems instead of avoiding them

As Clear clearly (heh, there I go again) puts it:

“The most practical way to change who you are is to change what you do.”“Each small habit is a vote for the type of person you want to become.”

Every call you make.

Every document you read.

Every question you ask in this group.

Those are votes.

You don’t need unanimous votes to win an election—just a majority over time.

So if you’re feeling stuck or slow right now, maybe the question isn’t “Why isn’t this working yet?”

Maybe it’s simply:

“What would a land developer do next?”

That identity—once embraced—has a way of pulling the goals along behind it.
