PPP Fraud

One of my companies recently fell victim to a PPP Fraudulent loan situation. I got a letter in the mail here at my office from the SBA that I will be honest appeared to look fake. But I took it seriously and didn't throw it out. The letter stated that we took out a loan 3 years ago during the PPP times for $95,000. I called the SBA to verify this information and indeed someone took out a $95,000 PPP loan against our company. This is the first time in the 3 years since the money was sent to this fraudster anyone had ever sent us a letter. I was fairly surprised but not shocked given that the level of checking and due diligence was suspect at best. When celebrities were being handed out millions of dollars it makes you think.

Long story short. I have had to provide the SBA with basically the color of my who ha over the last 30 days to prove and bare the burden of proof that we did not receive the money. I am talking about 5 years tax returns, tax account and tax return transcripts, all business and all personal bank accounts for that year, copies of selfies and my drivers license, among many many other things.

If anyone has experienced this and needs help I can give them a lot of advice on how to deal with this. I am sure this is a rampant issue.
