Happy Freight Customers
You got to love customers who appreciate the work you do. This customer left us a google review AND called me last week to tell me how much he appreciated the great care we put into packing his classic guitar amp. He told me this piece was “Rare” only 4 ever made and valuable. He even said he was restless, 😬 nervous, lost sleep while this was in transit. lol But once he received it and unpacked it, then plugged it in to find out it even works! He was so ecstatic. He had to let me know and wanted to tell the world! In this industry the phone rings most often because there is a problem and it needs to be fixed. It is the rare calls like this that make our days in the logistics world a little better. Hope your day is filled with phone calls from people appreciating you and the work you do! Have a great day! 😊 #PapaFreight #3pl #lsp #logistics #crating #packing #shipping #freight

Word of mouth is the best way to grow business! Great job!
Looking for opportunities, ideas, or mentorship
Hi everyone I am new here and trying to pivot my career. I have done a number of things from factory work to sales and I am really looking to fall into a career that offers flexibility and growth I am hard working, ambitious, and passionate about success. I have heard many things about the freight broker industry that has caught my attention. I willingly admit that I am new and do not possess a lot of knowledge about it, what I do possess is the ability and willingness to learn. I am currently seeking funding to take an online course to gain the insight I need to be successful and to prove that I am willing to put in the work but I am struggling to find what I need does anyone here have any ideas or insight on how I could potentially find my way into the industry or begin the process of learning the art of being a broker/agent. Of course I am understanding that I would more than likely have to operate as an agent before stepping out on my own for several reasons but I am open to any an all ideas or advice. Thanks for listening to what I had to say and any information or input would be very greatly appreciated 👍

Jason - I'm not an expert on freight brokerage training but I have to believe there are options where you are not paying for the training. With that said, learning the business is important so I would recommend reading as much as you can find online. I bet money that Chat GPT would provide significant answers to your questions but as with anything, trust but verify.
Freight Fraud
What’s the most important point in the supply chain process to stop Freight Fraud? As a broker we always call the number for the carrier whose trying to book a load with us on the fmcsa website and ask for the dispatcher. Red Flags are No one answers They don’t have a dispatcher by that name They don’t have trucks in that area. Even if a carrier is validated in the many online platforms. No matter how legit everything looks from a carrier packet standpoint Calling the carriers listed phone number on the FMCSAs website and verifying the communicator is step one in protecting yourself from fraud. Anybody with any other tips?

There are so many cases of fraud anymore it's not even funny! Some carriers use Carrier Assure as an additional option. Genlogs is also now in the game to help proactively and then after the fact catch carriers with stolen cargo. I'm not an expert but I can say we need a concerted effort to put a stop to it. It's getting worse by the day!
Tariffs....
Don't have anything else to say, just thought this might start a good discussion here. LOL

I believe there is a middle ground which is why Trump is pushing so extreme in some cases. He is trying to get it balanced. If the US pays a country a 20% tariff then it should be reciprocal. There is no good reason I think of why it should not be balanced. We are seeing new operations being announced in the US. It will take time to build, but that helps those of us in the supply chain industry. Jobs might be tough to fill but I believe AI & automation is a must to fill those gaps.
Freight Forecasts
13 years in business and we just had our slowest January in 10 years. What would you think is the biggest determinant of this? The Economy, Politics, Consumer Spending? No matter where I look business is down. We didn’t lose accounts but the ones we have are slower. The rate of adding new clients has declined. It’s not just local or in any one service type. (First, Middle, Final mile/Warehousing/Crating/Cross Dock) There is a general decline in freight starting this year at all locations across all segments in all verticals. Historically January has always been great for us. Anybody got the answer?

I feel like January was slow and February has been similar. I work with manufacturing customers and they seem slower than last year. I expect they are playing safe a bit to see how the economy moves this year. I hope it is a short-term concern!
