FMCSA Reporting (MCS-150)
If people notice that when you file your MCS-150 you report your trucks in multiple columns
Owned, Trip Lease, Term Lease
You report your drivers in multiple columns
Interstate, intrastate, cdl, and non cdl
How many people know the answer as to what number is actually displayed on the FMCSA Safer website?
Notice on the SAFER company snapshot there is only 1 number for each!
In this example
Power: 11
Drivers: 11
Here is the question.
Are these numbers:
1 The total reported?
Power = Owned + Term Leased + Trip Leased (Rentals) which includes non CDL equipment under 26k GVWR
2 same as above
but excludes non CDL equipment
3 is only Owned equipment
Power = Owned
Now,
Are the number of drivers:
1 The total reported?
Drivers = interstate + intrastate+cdl+non-cdl
2 partial
Drivers = interstate cdl drivers only.
3 all but non cdl drivers
Drivers = interstate + intrastate + cdl
Which number from the mcs 150 is actually displayed in these boxes on the FMCSA safer website?
Can you really tell the actual coverage of a trucking company with multiple power units and multiple drivers from this info?
Here is a quick test on the questions above.
If I used a company like Pro Drivers to hire a temp cdl driver and each week for 52 weeks they sent me a different driver AND
I trip leased a different Penske power unit each of those weeks so I had 52 different VIN numbers rented running under my authority each week.
Would you see the data on the FMCSA website for my trucking company?
Power: 52
Drivers: 52
Keep in mind I had to report on my MCS-150 the total mileage run for all 52 trucks and 52 drivers. I have the ELD logs from 52 different trucks I have the DVIRs for 52 different drivers.
I own NO trucks (I rented them) I have NO drivers (Temp agency) but my mcs-150 is filed out correctly.
Now the broker checks me out on the FMCSA safer portal
Does it show:
Power: 52
Drivers: 52
Or something else?
What’s your Answer?
