Insurance premium concerns.
Hello, I wanted to inquire if it would be possible to reduce my insurance coverage or adjust the policy temporarily while I wait on aging my authority. At this time, I am not running many miles or securing loads consistently, and the current insurance cost is creating a significant overhead expense. My goal is to remain compliant while also managing expenses until I am able to secure more consistent work. If there are any options available to lower the premium, reduce mileage, or adjust coverage during this period, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Any insight or recommendations you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Best regards,Tracon

So you already limit your policy to regional mileage? Some people make the mistake of saying their cargo van goes to all states and then the policy is much more expensive then if you just say the cargo van will only travel in GA, FL, SC etc. The less states you list the less cost for your policy. At the beginning maybe limit your payment by only getting minimum coverage until your MC ages or you get an account that requires higher coverage. If your van is paid for your in a much better position than if leased or financed because they put restrictions on your limits.

I have multiple cargo vans and 1 has high miles 400k so I only run it locally. My rate reduced when I put in that that vehicle only needs to be covered in Arizona since we not going to drive it out of state again. I would tell the insurer you are only going to run your van in 2 states GA and a border state you might run to. Limiting the risk exposure of the van will reduce the policy cost and you will stay compliant.

Only People in Freight Skool.
We have had a few members sign up as a company with a company name etc these members are being purged and will be banned. Freight Skool is about people connecting. Not company spam. If they can’t sign up as themselves we don’t need them in the Skool. Thanks

I removed another profile that changed to a company and have blocked company profiles from joining the group. We want to keep our Freight Skool free of spam, advertising, company blasts. Freight Skool is about PEOPLE. Mentors and Mentees. Asking Questions and getting answers. Needing info and providing info. People interacting with other people.
New Cargo Van Owner operator
Hello everyone, I hope you all are having a great day so far. I truly appreciate the opportunity to connect, network, and learn more about navigating the logistics industry. I am a new owner-operator with a cargo van based in Braselton, GA. My authority has been active for a little over 30 days, and I am fully FMCSA compliant. At the moment, I’m working to gain traction and secure consistent loads, so any advice, guidance, or opportunities would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Steven, for welcoming me into such a wonderful community. I look forward to learning from everyone here.

@Tracon Porter you will find @Bill Robinson to be one of our most valuable members at communicating the overall freight market here on Skool. The guy is a wealth of knowledge and shares his years of experience not just in carrier freight transportation but in the overall Global Logistics economy. Thanks Bill for taking your time to encourage and help new entrants into the Freight community. That’s what Freight Skool is all about!

Long Term Contracting
The last two years has been very challenging looking at volume and financials for my 3PL when I separate out brokerage, carrier and warehousing from our Government/Military project work. My 3PL primarily relies on commercial accounts in the local P&D, Crating and Pack and Ship services, all of which have been down these past two years. I have certainly seen an uptick in these requests and in business volume in these areas the last two months though. When looking at how we survived the last two years it’s easy to see that’s it has been the long term Government Contracts and Subcontracts that we have. They have played a huge role in filling capacity, retaining employees and maintaining cash flow while the other business has been down. Some of these contracts have been short term (A few months) but a few have been long term (10 years). I’ve been building my 3PL since 2012. The freight markets change going up and down (Any fans of Rollercoasters? lol) The bottom line is if you position yourself as a reliable partner and deliver great freight logistics results you receive and retain business (like long term Government Contracting work) that will keep you going through any kind of market. Keep going my friends and have a great day

The pictures are of a few government military contracts we have. Military Base Security Locker Rooms (Multiple Contracts) TSA plexiglass dividers and work Stations at every airport in the United States. Did you know there are over 700? (1 Year Contract during COVID) Ballistic Panel Cubicles (10 Year IDIQ Contract)

@Rayan Speid actually we have a built in pricing variable that’s applied on each Task Order. An IDIQ Contract with the government is basically an open PO and one of our contracts is for 10 years. Production and distribution is funded based on Task Order. (The contract allows for Cost to be revisited on each Task Order) Each Task Order is then Priced based on the Delivery Order. I control the Delivery Orders. I determine the order of production and shipping for install and the manufacturer will then Produce the units I need in the order I need them to fulfill our deliveries. The pricing is fixed on a per unit delivered basis but it’s by Task Order which means I have been able to go up and down in price based on the distribution model(Task Orders) 17 times in 9 years. If that makes sense. lol
