ADHD Hack: Sensory Anchoring
Did you know that you can create flow states with sensory anchoring? Sensory anchoring means using a specific smell, texture, or sound to train your brain into different modes. For example, I create sensory anchors for getting into "focus mode" when I need to work by keeping a cedar block on my desk. When I'm ready to work, I smell the cedar block, turn on some medieval lo-fi music, set a pomodoro timer, and get to it. Now my brain associates medieval lo-fi and the smell of cedar with "It's time to lock in and get work done!" Have you tried sensory anchoring before?

RE: ADHD Hack :Sensory Anchroing.
Fantastic idea. One note for everyone: it’s usually a good idea to figure out how to make sure you’re working on your most important task first thing in the morning—regardless of your morning routine or any physical anchor you use. That way, you ensure your most important work gets done no matter the circumstances, and your productivity won’t dip below a certain level. You’ll also avoid falling into “morning routine” traps that are really just procrastination disguised as productivity. Of course, physical anchoring can be a great way to help you make that transition. For example, I used to play my favorite video game first thing in the morning so I’d actually want to get up at 5 a.m. Then, after a while, waking up that early became normal, and I was able to phase out the game and transition straight into work. The key is to figure out what works for you. No matter how silly or unconventional it may seem. Especially don’t just listen to advice that says you simply need to be more disciplined. That advice can work, but for many people with ADHD, it just drains your energy. And protecting your energy is one of the most important things you have to do as an entrepreneur. I also added a video from Daniel Priestley where he talks about how Richard Branson taught him to focus on the same principles. I don’t usually post this much. Fantastic topic. Thanks, @Bill Widmer Hope everyone is having a fantastic time. All the best. Cheers. Anzumana

Hi, I'm Julia, founder of VEYA
- Who are you and what do you do? - God, who am I? I am all these things, not one. I have been told I am disagreeable, which, scientifically, is the main quality you need to be a CEO, so that's good. I am kind, tender, compassionate, angry, sad, happy...I would say a semmolier of emotions. I founded VEYA (www.veyababe.com) and created a few things: a quantum devotion method, which, when it's out, I want to help moms create emotional transmutation for their highest good in ten minutes per day. I sell red light therapy products and have two inventions for pregnant and post-partum mom bellies. I help moms with the 3 Hs: Healthy, Happy, Hot. We all want those. I simplify. Actually, I make things totally complex, then make them simple. - Why were you interested in joining this group? Because I want to be a contribution to the world and my ADHD seems to be a hinderance and I'd like to transform that. - What's your biggest challenge when it comes to ADHD or business right now? I can't seem to do what I say I will do, or sit down, for like, even an hour, if i don't like the tasks. I like to dream but not execute. My fears get in the way. I'm terrified, but I'm here. I will keep going.
Hi, I'm Julia, founder of VEYA
Those of you who menstruate: Do you plan your tasks in synch with your cycle?
We’ve been aware for a while now that ADHD in women is associated with higher sensitivities to hormonal changes which can result in PMDD, worsened ADHD symptoms or reduced efficiency of ADHD medication (for a while meaning – since 2017 I believe?? Correct me if I’m wrong). Just generally though our bodies and brains change throughout the menstrual cycle, and I think many of us will notice those changes over the month. What I’m curious about – do you keep track of your cycle and have this in mind as you schedule meetings, tasks or deadlines? Personally I’m much more outgoing and communicative during my follicular phase, so I’ll plan important meetings, outreach or releases during this phase wherever possible. When I’m luteal or menstruate I tend to withdraw from the world. This is a tricky window as mood regulators drop and I’ll be sooo much more sensitive to negative intrusive thoughts. But I’ve found this window is actually really fitting for deep-diving into learning new things, tucked in comfortably on my sofa. What’s funny is that I started doing this subconsciously. I’ve been focusing on exploring my flow states over the last years, listening to my body and leveraging my impulses. By now I’m aware of what’s going on and how I can use it to my benefit. It’s not foolproof, and externalities can easily get in the way. But I do feel much more confident and aligned in my work and can be gentle to myself when something doesn’t work out. Do any of you relate? Can you identify tasks that work just well in one cycle phase but feel impossible a week later? Would love to hear your thoughts 💛
