Teaching Game Actions in Group Workouts
I can't stress what I am about to write enough...
Player's nowadays get no where NEAR enough tactical live play. AAU can turn into a 1v1 fest, skill workouts are on-air... we can't expect our players to naturally develop basketball IQ
Do your players know the following actions?
  • ghost
  • wide pin
  • dho
  • get action
  • double drag / 77 action
  • double drag shallow
  • ghost + flare
  • zoom
  • grenade
  • 45 cut / slot cut
Those are just a few of 100+ options - as I've gotten older and matured + gained knowledge of the game, I've realized how important this baseline of knowledge is. "Skills" matter less, and my pattern recognition and knowledge of the game matter more
I am better than ever when I play yet I rarely "workout" as a basketball player anymore
How do you teach these actions? Introduce 1-3 at a time and allow your players to explore, try, implement, fail, and REPEAT
Below is an example of how I like to do this:
Let me know your thoughts below, and I hope you all have a great weekend.
Much Love,
DC
