Dribbling Too Much?
I was told growing up that dribbling too much was bad. Coaches preach one or two dribbles MAX when driving to the basket. Not a bad concept, but this is outdated. During our high-level workouts today, Danny and I had our athletes use MORE dribbles, upwards of 3, 4, or even 5 dribbles when driving to the rim. Why? A few reasons. 1. More dribbles threw off the defender's timing. They never knew when our athlete would score. 2. Allows offense to get in position to use their BUMPS. 3. Offense was always in control. Of course there are times where too many dribbles are bad. What are your thoughts on the use of MORE dribbles?👇

Catch to score helps them understand getting to the rim in a more straight line and not to move sideline to sideline and stay in one place. Movement and angles

I would teach when it's a good time too on defender position and how but I know some players I have to get them to not do it everytime it is a nervous habit for some.
Small Sided Games (How Often?
In the middle of the off-season right now... and I am curious. How often (weekly) would you recommend players train with small sided games?

Because of playing other sports, try to fit in off-season training for those sports and for basketball. Some can have jobs because they have to and others sometimes have to babysit the brothers and sisters in the summer or after school. Plus some don't have the means to spend money and don't know where to start. It all depends on the family situation that they have been dealt. Also are pretty good now and don't think they need to work. Look at AAU they think that is a workout nowadays and it probably creates more bad habits towards playing within a team IQ than anything. Most people today would rather play than do workouts to get a certain skill better.
🏀 Teaching Tuesday
If you could instantly improve ONE skill in every player you coach (not including shooting, dribbling, finishing), what would it be and why? You only get one. Would you choose: - Decision-making - Footwork - Confidence - Defensive IQ - Communication - Something else? Why did you choose that skill? 👇 Drop your answer below.

Be passionate about improving, develop a great work ethic, and build a routine around what you learn to meet those goals. I believe the rest follows.

Baby steps they have to see some improvement and you start to bring them along and as you do that you talk to them through a story about others in the past and them today and have them start to live the story. I do that with new employees and young basketball players' books written on this subject.

Lifelong learners are why they adapt to their players way more in public high schools and down, because the talent changes every couple of years and you must use different systems. The private and college go get what they need and run the same systems to fit their style.
