I had a call with someone yesterday and briefly mentioned how I was able to watch so many videos in a short space of time, and I was shocked that they didn't know this.
I don't mean shocked in an arrogant way, just shocked because I thought everyone knew.
So, for those of you that don't know the YouTube shortcut you can use, here goes:
The Essential Shortcuts Every Professional Should Know
Time Navigation (No Mouse Required)
- J key: Jump back 10 seconds (perfect for replaying key insights)
- L key: Jump forward 10 seconds (skip the fluff)
- K key or Spacebar: Pause/play toggle
- Arrow keys: Left/right for precise 5-second adjustments
Instant Seeking (The Hidden Gem)
- Number keys 0-9: Instantly jump to any point in the video. Press 5 = Jump to 50% of video length Press 9 = Jump to 90% Press 0 = Return to the start
Why This Matters for Your Workflow
I don't know about you, but I watch a ton of YouTube videos since I want to learn as much as possible to help improve my channels.
If you're consuming 60+ minutes of educational content daily (courses, tutorials, strategy breakdowns), these shortcuts save you 10-15 minutes per session. That's 50+ hours annually just from removing mouse dependency.
Yippee! 🥳
It's gonna take you a while to get used to using them, but when you do, it will feel like a superpower.
Anyway, I hope it helps!
