The Two Levels of Awareness That Change Everything
When I talk about “stop and notice your emotions and thoughts… then choose calm for connection,” that is the first level of awareness.
And it’s powerful.
This is the level most parenting advice focuses on.
Notice you’re triggered.
Pause.
Breathe.
Regulate.
Respond differently.
This conscious awareness absolutely matters.
It interrupts reactions.
It softens moments.
It creates space.
But it’s still happening at the surface layer.
It’s working with what you can see - your emotions, your thoughts, your behaviour.
And sometimes… it feels like hard work.
You calm yourself.
You regulate again.
You try to stay present.
You override reactions.
It helps - but it can feel like you’re constantly managing something.
There’s a deeper level.
The second level of awareness is where true transformation happens.
This is the unconscious layer.
The energetic layer.
The level where the programming lives that generates the conscious thoughts and emotions in the first place.
This is the level that creates the reactions before you even know you’re reacting.
It’s the layer that holds:
• Old emotional imprints
• Identity decisions about yourself and the world
• Unfinished emotional experiences
• The vibrational patterns you’re broadcasting without words
This is also the level your child connects to.
Not your carefully chosen parenting words.
Not your “calm voice.”
Not the strategy you’re trying to implement.
They connect to the energetic layer beneath it.
And here’s the part most people don’t realise:
When change happens at this level, you don’t have to work so hard at the conscious one.
Because you’re no longer constantly overriding something that’s still running underneath.
When the unconscious programming shifts, the conscious layer changes naturally.
Your reactions soften without effort.
Your triggers dissolve instead of being managed.
Your child responds differently - without you forcing new behaviour.
This is the level where vibrational patterns are released before they turn into emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.
It’s also the level that is shared between people - silently, constantly, and far more powerfully than external instruction.
This is why you can “say all the right things” and nothing changes.
And this is why, when something truly shifts inside you, your child’s behaviour often shifts too - even if you never explained anything to them.
Level one is awareness of what you’re experiencing.
Level two is awareness of what is generating the experience.
Both matter.
But if you’ve been regulating and still feel like something deeper is running the show… you’re probably right.
