Welcome to the TOUCH ๐ EARTH 21-Day Challenge! This challenge is designed to create an intentional shift away from screens and hand-held devices and toward known natural factors that improve our peace, self love, cognition, and physical health.
DAY 1: This landmark study of nearly 20,000 participants found that when people spent at least 120 minutes in nature a week, they reported significantly higher levels of health and well-being. Calculate it out, and that's a mere 17 minutes a day. So today, commit to one 20-minute or two 10-minute times to step outside, leaving your phone behind. Already spend time outside? Add at least 17 minutes more a day in which you are phone-free and task-free. Look at your schedule and decide on a time.
"I regret that nature walk I just took," said no one, ever.
There's no right way to do this. Some ideas:
- stroll in a small park, notice what bird you hear
- take your shoes off in a patch grass and feel it between your toes
- stroll to the edge of a river or lake and listen for water sounds
- walk the fitness route at work, scanning for small creatures
- step outside and look for clouds
- stretch outside in the shade
- step out to a patch of garden and notice buds and new leaves
- any of this can happen from a doorstep outside, as long as there's sky
