Should all podcasters have a Skool community?
This was the question I asked @Shannon Boyer when she was a guest on my show Podcasting Business School. At the time of the interview I was THINKING about starting a Skool community and during the episode Shannon helped me map out my community launch strategy. We All Love to Be Invited. This Is the SKOOLERS Way… 🏴‍☠️
Many of us do not want to be too direct. Or too salesy. Yet here is the truth. If you “hide” your invitation in too many whens, ifs, maybes, or even some vague dancing around the bush, this can quietly redirect real money away from the person you actually meant to support. How? With SKOOL Growth Boost, every profile click will count as “SKOOL Network” and give 30% commission to SKOOL. 🚨 So when your invitation is not actually direct, three things happen. 1️⃣ You do not make a clear invitation. (And yes, a nice, open, clear invitation can be declined as well, and that is perfectly fine.) 2️⃣ You make it harder for them than it needs to be. (Yes, sharing a link to click is easy. Why do we force people to figure it out on their own?) 3️⃣ You might undermine the intention of the community owner you actually want to support! (Guess what, most might prefer to give you a share when it was actually your recommendation. Personally, I would rather have my members get 30% than SKOOL.) ⭐️ So what to do instead? 👉 If you RECOMMEND a community, make the invitation clear and use your invite link. I dare you to be direct and to see it as an act of service. 👉 If you JOIN a community, check if someone you know has an invite link first. Ask for it before you click around. And no, this post is not about the Growth Boost itself. It’s about having an even better reason now to share good things with people you love. And to do it in a way that benefits them most. If you get some “thank you money” in return, good. If your friends get some “thank you money”, even better! ––– Should we make this a thing? Before we join a place, before we recommend one, or before we click around on discovery: Who would benefit most if I use the right invite link?

Maybe You Don’t Have a Content Problem 😈
I think I accidentally answered a question that’s been bugging me for years 😂 Why can two people hear the exact same business advice, and one person runs with it… while the other gets excited for about three days and then quietly abandons it 😬 For the longest time I thought maybe it was discipline, or consistency, or mindset… Turns out, I don’t think it’s any of those 🤪 That rabbit hole led me somewhere I wasn’t expecting, which always excites me 🙌🏻 I started pulling apart one tiny piece of Human Design, not because I wanted to teach Human Design… but because I wondered if there were just a handful of clues that explained why different people naturally build momentum in different ways. Most of us don’t have an idea problem. 😂 We have enough ideas to last three lifetimes. The hard part is turning… “That’s a cool idea…” into… “Holy shit… I actually did it.” on repeat 🤯 That question completely hijacked my week. One experiment turned into another… and I accidentally built a tool to help. It now lives inside Fix Your Funk. Skool Group Card vs About Page: Which Actually Gets the Join?
There’s been a lot of conversation lately about Skool group cards… Legibility. Standing out. Not looking like everyone else’s. Templates are a great place to start. They’re a terrible place to stop. Your Skool group card has one job… 👉🏻 Get the click. Your Skool About page has a completely different job… 🎯 Earn the join. A lot of people spend hours tweaking their Skool group card… Then send people to a Skool About page that quietly talks them right back out of joining. Or… They finally make a group card they love… But the About page images don’t match the first impression. Those two things should work together. Not compete with each other. That’s a big part of what we’re pulling apart inside Defunk’d Design. 👀 Skool group cards 🎨 Discovery banners 📄 Skool About page images 🎥 Thumbnails 📢 Ads 🤖 AI tells You’ll still end up creating better AI prompts. Most Skool group cards aren’t bad. They’re forgettable 😬 You know that feeling when you’re scrolling Discovery… One group makes you stop. The next twenty kind of blur together. It isn’t because someone found a better font, a cooler AI prompt, or followed the same template everyone else is using. Your brain notices tiny decisions long before you consciously do. I’ve spent years making art and creating thousands of marketing images… including ad creatives for Skool. Templates have always given me the ick 🤢 I don’t want my work to look like somebody else’s. I don’t even use other people’s prompts… I write my own because I want the result to look like mine instead of another image that blends into the pile. That’s why I built Defunk’d Design.
