It hurts me too say this but, honestly the most disappointing addition to my Spicebomb collection. I picked the edt first because everyone said it was more versatile, though I did also add the edp. It’s billed as part of the iconic line, but it’s a much lighter, fresh‑green scent with only a faint dusting of the spice, but bomb it definitely is not. The name Night Vision set me up expecting something richer, darker, and more intense, so that was a real letdown. Even the signature peppery DNA that makes Spicebomb what it is feels watered down here, not gone entirely, but muted and far removed from the punch I love. Released in 2019 by perfumers Nathalie Lorson and Pierre Negrin, it feels like it’s aimed squarely at people who find the original Spicebomb too loud or overpowering, which is fine, but it loses too much of its identity in the process. It opens with a bright burst of green freshness: bergamot, green mandarin, grapefruit, and crisp green apple, backed only by a soft hint of green cardamom. That’s the biggest split from the original. There’s zero explosive black pepper hit here, just clean, zesty green notes that feel like they belong in a completely different line. As it settles, it shifts into aromatic herbs: clary sage, geranium, rosemary, and lavandin keep it light and airy, never building any real heat. The drydown finally adds some warmth with roasted almond, tonka, patchouli, cedar, soft woods, and musk, but it’s too little, too late. You have to wonder what they were thinking: we already had Fresh and Infrared EDTs that got discontinued, presumably because sales were weak. The original Spicebomb was an EDT and it was an absolute beast, so why intentionally make the newer ones so much weaker? From a performance standpoint this is easily the bottom of the barrel for Viktor & Rolf. The juice itself isn’t terrible on its own, it’s just not a proper Spicebomb, and it fades way too fast. I get maybe 4 hours on skin, with very modest projection for the first hour before it shrinks right down to a faint skin scent. Night Vision and Infrared EDPs are far more robust, which makes sense, later releases like Dark Leather only came as an edp, same with the brand new Metal Musk. I’m obsessed with this line, it’s my absolute number one, but they really dropped the ball here.
