Finally gave Valiant Soul from The Dua Brand a proper try, and for what it’s going for, it’s an excellent masculine scent with a nicely balanced profile. It’s inspired by Valero from Parfums de Marly, that warm, woody amber type of fragrance, and while it’s definitely in the same family, it brings its own personality. It’s not a direct clone, which I appreciate.
Notes Breakdown:
Top: Bergamot, Cedrat, Juniper (crisp, clean citrus to start)
Heart: Geranium Bourbon, Lavender, Cypress, Nutmeg (smooth aromatic spice)
Base: Patchouli Coeur, Sandalwood, Ambrox (woody and warm)
How it smells:
Right from the first spray, you get a fresh citrus kick from the bergamot and cedrat. It’s bright but not too loud. Juniper adds a cool, slightly sharp edge that gives it some character. The heart brings in smooth herbs and spice, with geranium and lavender blending nicely with the cypress and nutmeg. It stays masculine without leaning too floral. As it dries down, the patchouli and sandalwood create a warm, woody base, and the ambrox adds a soft amber glow.
Compared to Valero:
It doesn’t smell exactly like Valero, but it shares the same refined, woody amber vibe. Valiant Soul feels a bit lighter and cleaner, but the structure and mood are very similar. And for the price, it holds up really well.
Performance:
This wears like an extrait, so you can expect strong staying power. I got around 8 to 10 hours depending on how much I applied. The projection starts off moderate to strong, then settles into a confident scent trail that’s not overwhelming, which makes it great for both day and evening wear.
Final thoughts:
Valiant Soul feels well-composed clean and playful If you’re into modern amber-woody fougère scents with a bright opening and a smooth, warm finish, this is an easy pick. And if you’re curious about Valero but not ready to commit to the price, this is one of the best inspired versions available.
