Posting some more accords I built today. From right to left, we’ve got my True Musk accord. This one is a blend of musks that can be adjusted depending on the fragrance it’s going into and how prominently I want to feature one musk over another. The reason a perfumer layers multiple musks is simple — most people can’t perceive many of them. Some musks are entirely anosmic to certain noses, so by combining several, you ensure that everyone picks up at least one or two.
Next is my Frosted Alpine accord. I ordered some of the best peppermint and spearmint oils in the world, and they come from right here in my home state of Oregon! I was excited to put them to use, and my first thought was a snow-capped alpine forest. This one combines Himalayan and Texas Cedarwood with peppermint and spearmint, creating an effect that feels like a deep breath of icy mountain air.
And finally, my Incense Accord which has been a true labor of love. I think this batch has finally hit the mark. Aoud, Frankincense, and Myrrh form the heart, while Benzoin and two types of Labdanum round it out. One is my usual Labdanum Absolute, rich and resinous, and the other is a rare Labdanum that undergoes an intensive pyrogenation process, giving it a deep, smoky, holy mass-like character.
Each of these has a place in my upcoming compositions, and I can’t wait to see how they evolve. Hope you all are having a blessed Sunday (or Monday for those of you ahead in the world).
