Things I've learned about niche fragrances
I've only been in this group for less than a year but I have picked up a lot of knowledge in that time. I knew next to nothing about niche brands but these are a few things I have learned...
  • I always sample first. These fragrances aren't always for me and at their price point, NEVER blind buy.
  • With the decants I have I don't think I need to buy a full bottle except for a select few I really enjoy. These fragrances (at least most) aren't really the everyday type of scents, more situational. I've found that decants last me a very long time.
  • Niche fragrances are generally for the person wearing them, not for mass appeal. Out of the dozen or so decants of niche fragrances I have, I think my wife likes only one of them (Xerjoff Naxos) a few she says smell outright horrible to her nose. 😆 This really lowers the number of times I can actually wear them.
  • I tend to subconsciously underspray. At the high cost of these fragrances, I see dollar signs with every push of the atomizer, so I probably don't put on enough as I should.
  • Niches are like the abstract art of the fragrance world. And making these fragrances, or any fragrance for that matter, is an art and art is subjective. Most people just don't get it but the people who do love it.
So, I've found out that this is why most of my fragrances at this point are designers. Easy to wear, mass appealing and not too hard on the wallet.
