SOTD/Review: Mauboussin Une Histoire d'Homme Irrésistible
A blind-buy. I read and was intrigued by the post by along with his conversation with about this scent and being a gem. I looked it up online and saw it in the UK for £17 ($21) so for the price I couldn’t argue, so went for it...here are my thoughts
After the first spray the opening is fresh and slightly bright with bergamot, but what really defines it is the fig leaf, giving a soft green, slightly milky sweetness that feels natural and almost sunlit, like walking past a fig tree in warm weather. It’s fresh but not sharp, with a smooth, slightly creamy edge that makes it stand out from typical citrus openings.
As it settles, the fragrance becomes more refined as sandalwood takes centre stage, adding a soft, creamy woodiness that blends beautifully with the green fig accord. The transition is very smooth - nothing feels harsh or overpowering, just clean, airy and well put together.
In the dry down, cedarwood anchors the scent with a light, dry woody finish that keeps everything feeling masculine and structured while still remaining subtle and easy to wear.
Performance is more on the softer side, typically giving me around 4–6 hours with a more intimate projection, so it sits closer to the skin rather than filling a room.
Overall, it’s a refined, understated fragrance - fresh, green and woody with a smooth fig signature that feels classy and effortless, perfect for daytime wear, spring and summer, or anytime you want something clean and quietly confident without being loud.
Thanks Lon and Stephen, great choice and recommendation.
