Zara’s Tobacco Sublime, part of the 2023 Tobacco Collection, has gained a reputation for being the efined, quiet cousin of the line. Unlike its siblings that scream with honey or loud vanilla, Sublime is a more sophisticated, woody, and slightly green take on tobacco, the nose behind this one is Jordi Fernández.
It's an edp that leans into a dry, aromatic, and sophisticated territory rather than the typical "sweet/gourmand" tobacco style. With top notes of Clary Sage and Chamomile. The opening is surprisingly fresh and herbal. The clary sage gives it a clean, almost tea-like quality. It doesn't hit you with smoke immediately; it’s more like an unlit cigar in a high-end apothecary. At its heart, my favourite an unusual combo of tobacco and Iris. As it settles, the tobacco emerges, but it’s a dry, leafy tobacco. The iris adds a subtle lipsticky or powdery touch, but it’s very faint compared to something like Dior Homme. It serves to smoothen the edges of the herbs. Settling into the base with a beautiful drydown where the fragrance shines. The fir balsam and sandalwood create a resinous, woody base that feels very masculine and outdoorsy in a refined way.
Being a Zara fragrance, expectations are not so high, but the Tobacco collection generally performs better than their summer lines. You get a moderate performance here that maxes out at around 4hrs. Projection is quite low, This is a "personal bubble" scent. It’s not going to announce your arrival from across the room, which makes it excellent for professional settings. It has enough "warmth" for the cold but enough greenery to work in early Spring.
