SOTD: PDM Percival
Today I'm catching up over coffee at an outdoor cafe with a friend I haven't seen since 2017. Percival seemed the perfect choice.
It is one of those fragrances that just smells effortlessly clean and upscale from the first spray. Released in 2018 and created by Hamid Merati-Kashani, it opens with bergamot, mandarin, and aromatic notes before moving into lavender, geranium, violet, and jasmine, all sitting on a musky woody base with ambroxan and balsam fir.
The first thing that struck me is how familiar the overall style feels — fresh, musky, slightly shower-gel clean — but done at a much smoother and more refined level than most designer fragrances in that lane. It’s bright and energetic without becoming sharp or synthetic on my skin.
Honestly, this feels like the definition of an easy reach fragrance. Office, casual wear, travel, gym, lunch dates, warm weather — it works almost anywhere. It’s probably not the most daring or unique scent in the world, but sometimes “smells really good and easy to wear” is exactly the point. Performance is excellent too for a fresh fragrance.
