SOTD: ADG Profondo EDP 2020

Good day gents!

Still way behind on sharing my thoughts of the decants I've killed off... got a busy start of the year!

Got this one more as of a curiosity, wanting to directly compare the 2024 Profondo with the 2020 one, that I had not really tested before. THere's a fair share of people that prefer the 2020, so hadto figure it out!

Profondo follows the tried-and-true formula and DNA of ADG.

Opens up bright with the citruses, with a mild salty accord already. The aquatic DNA shows itself from second one. I get the opening notes for a part of the first hour rather clearly. As usual, very ncie opening from an ADG.

As it dries down, it becomes a more aromatic fragrance with the lavander and rosemary coming out. Quite honestly, cypress isn't what I get in a prominent way. I do not get much of a woody accord still. The opening I feel still lingers here, as a clear memory.

Drying down, I get a saltier, mineralic base. Still not particularly woody at all. I thought it felt warmer here than the 2024, which the listed note of amber would support. A tad on the greener side here as well.

Performance is decent. The usual 5-6 hours scent, with moderate projection for the first 3 hours.

Comparisson time! This was interesting... because they are very similar, but at the same time, hit me differently. 2020 comes out more vibrant from the citruses, saltiness (not a "salty" scent per se) and mineralic, drying down in a more warmer way. The 2024 EDP comes out sweeter, the aromatics come out sooner, and actually feels woody in the drydown, where 2020 I couldn't really pick up clear woodiness. Performance felt about the same between the two.

Bottom line, they're very similar. Brothers, for sure. I found myself preffering the brighter nature of the 2020 over the 2024, to my surprise. ADG Profondo EDP 2024 is as close of a signature scent for me, if I ever have one, so this surprised me.

However, I would find too much of a redundancy to own a bottle of each. Would I also go out of my way to give/sell my bottle of 2024 to get a 2020? Also no.

Profondo EPD 2020 or 2024 both are excellent, brothers with a small age-gap, with just slightly different personalities.

Which one do you prefer?
