Slay The Sample: Rockstud Noir by Valentino 10/11/2025
Using up the last bit of juice in my Rockstud sample. This is the only Valentino that I've tried to date, I'm ashamed to say. Got this in my early days of collecting and quite enjoyed it as memory serves me. About a year on and, well it's ok. Nothing fantastic, it's ok. Kinda generic, I've smelled this before. Perhaps it's the Myslf vibe from the sage? It's a limited edition edt released back in 2023, which explains why I never was able to find a big bottle.
An aromatic fougère, it's clean, versatile, and mass-appealing scent. It opens up with bergamot and little green apple, for a bright, fresh, and zesty burst that is immediately inviting and uplifting. This initial freshness sets a lively tone. At its heart, that aromatic sage, which is prominent, lending a green, herbal, and natural depth. It is clean and aromatic, providing a "shampoo-like" or "soapy" clean feel. This is most likely due to the Ambergris accord in the base. I would have said a touch of abroxan, but as we all know, thats a synthetic compound and although different, it does mimic certain aspects of Ambergris. In the base a long with the Ambergris accord there is a touch of Patchouli for that sensual musky yet earthy finish.
I can't really compare this to any of the other born in Roman releases. For an edt, it performed reasonably well at about 5 hrs on skin. The projection is moderate, creating a noticeable but not overwhelming scent bubble. It's a youthful fragrance, easily worn year round. A safe wear for casual outings, office/school, or date nights.
