Slay of the Day - Promise Frederic Malle
This was a very generous sample given to me by fellow brother I've had it for a little while and in the spirit of using up my samples and decants I put it into my SOTE rotation. The little 1.5mL vial gave me three wears, and I quite enjoyed each of them.
The prominent notes for me were saffron, pear, rose, and labdanum, and it has a very masculine "spicy" feel to it. If I had to compare it to something, I'd say that it smells like what Sauvage EDP is trying to be. If you love the dry down on that line, you are going to be blown away by this. It's warm, masculine, and comforting. It smells like how I remember my dad when I was a kid. It's not a go out and party kind of scent, but it is what you would wear to the partner meeting or to the Met gala or a movie premiere on the red carpet. My only regret is that I didn't get to wear it around other people.
Longevity is eternal. I sprayed this on in the evenings with a few hours before bedtime, so that I could really enjoy it. It lingered long after I woke up the next day, and even sat behind whatever I put on that morning. I can still pick it up on my shirt from earlier in the week as I'm putting it in the laundry today.
All of that said, I am not sure that I have a use case for this. I would wear it only a few times a year at most, so having a full presentation doesn't make much sense. But if I can pick up a larger decant, like a 5 or 10mL, for a decent price, then it's something I would add to the arsenal to pull out for those 1 or 2 occasions when I would wear this.
Overall score: 9.3 - Solid A-tier fragrance. Only loses points for use case and price.
Scent: 10.0 Stunning. It's hard to find something I don't like about it. This makes the 3rd fragrance I've ever felt like deserved a 10. (the other two are Black Orchid EDP and Boss Bottled Absolu)
Longevity: 10.0. God mode
Projection: 10.0. Radiates a nice bubble for hours and hours before becoming a close skin scent
Presentation: 8.0. I like the bottle, but it's a little plain and confusing. I couldn't figure out if it was Frederic Malle or Dominique Ropion because both names are prominent on the bottle and the sample.
Perceived Value: 5.0. This is ridiculously expensive at $295 for 50mL / $490 for 100mL. I don't see it at discounters, but others from the line go for around $225 for the 100mL, which is better, but still very expensive. I give it points because this brand is meant to be expensive, and I think the quality and longevity and other factors deserve the price point. But for something I would wear maybe twice a year, I can't justify even the discounted price.
Thank you again This was a beautiful gift, and I feel honored to have had the experience of it. This was possibly one of the highest quality fragrances I've ever worn, and it made me feel special getting to wear it.
