Match #12
Match #12 in my 40-fragrance tournament is another battle of contrasts, but this one wasn't particularly close. It paired the unseeded The Gentleman's Code by Ryziger Parfums against the #8 seed, Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême.
The Gentleman's Code comes out swinging with a bold mix of vanilla, spices, and woods. It's powerful from the first spray and definitely wants your attention. Unfortunately, there's a sharp top note that just doesn't work for me, and it never really settles into something I'd want to wear all day.
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême (2012, created by Jacques Polge) is a completely different experience. Citrus, mint, cypress, tonka bean, and woods come together in a fragrance that's fresh, smooth, and effortlessly refined. It has plenty of presence without ever feeling loud.
This one was a slam-dunk. The Chanel is simply more polished, more versatile, and far more enjoyable on my skin. Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême advances comfortably to the next round, while The Gentleman's Code drops into the loser's bracket.
