Happy 420 SOTD - Maison Margiela Replica Music Festival

So today is 4/20 - an unofficial holiday celebrating all things mari-ju-ana related (wink wink), and I had a special gummie and kind of forgot and got caught up watching One Piece. Then I remembered and was like... oh yeah, I need to write that review for 4/20

Okay, so here's the thing.

I put this on like forty minutes ago, and I forgot what I was doing. I got wrapped up in the next episode of One Piece, and I keep forgetting what I'm doing.

Anyway.

Music Festival. Is that what we were talking about? Oh, yeah, Coachella. That thing looks like a hoot. There's a couple of girls there that I photographed in their outfits before the festival, and they're posting their pics on IG now.

Wait. Music Festival, lol. lol. lol. why do we say it like that? My Mexican friends say jajajajajajaja and it cracks me up. I had an ex who would say it like "jaw--jaw--jaw" and I had to tell her its "hahahahaha". LOL

Music Festival.

Top notes: Neroli and aldehydes (does anyone know what those are? I thought they were fat molecules, but that's not right)

Middle: Hedione (lol, head....), and white musk

Base: Cashmeran (its so soft), and Ambroxide (i dated an amber oxide once. goth girl. I miss her)

Okay so.

What does it smell like -

you know that moment. It's golden hour at the festival, and the sun is doing that thing where it's not quite setting, but it's getting lower, and everything looks a bit warmer and softer, and there's somone standing near you and they smell incredible and you can't figure out who ti is because there's people everywhere and the air has that warm skin smell, but like the GOOD version of that the version where everyone is happy and the music is vibing and the light show is going off and the music is good and nobody is stressed and the music is so good and you feel like you are exactly where you are supposed to be on this earth at this specific moment in time?

That's the whole fragrance. they just. bottled that moment. they looked at the moment and they said yeah, we're going to put that in a bottle and then they DID it and I don't know how and I've been sitting here for forty minutes thinking about it.

there's also something solar about. like the sun god Ra absorbed it into his skin over the course of a long day outside and this what he smelled like. warm and close and human, but like, above that.

Shit. The review.

Scent: 9.5

I love this. Why did they discontinue this? I thought it was going to smell like hippies and patchouli and BO, but it not. It's not complicated. Just doing one thing with complete and total perfection and that one thing is making me feel like I am at that show with Nora En Pure and it's 4am and Amber Oxide is vibing against me and its going to be a good morning

Performance: 7.0

Medium projection. Stays fairly close to the skin but leaves a nice scent trail. It's absolutely correct for what it is. You're not trying to tell everyone that you're holding, but you want to smell good, too. You exist within it. I just wish it stayed longer. This one should really be an EDP and it should last at least as long as the set.

Presentation: 8.0

The bottle looks like something a pharmacist from 1987 would have on a shelf. Its unbothered. it's not trying to impress you. it's unique enough to pick instantly off a shelf of 1000 other fragrances, and yet it's quietly understated and elegant in its design. The scent absolutely matches the story. There's a real lesson in that.

Percevied Value: 7.0

This is discontinued. Secretions magnifique continues to exist, but this lovely little gem is gone. I've been trying to find a clone but I've only found one - Wicked Good Music Festival. I might try to pick it up and compare. Fragrantica says Jusbox Green Bubble might be similar, but it's also discontinued and runs about $200 for 75mL. I have 19-69 Purple Haze, which is a similar vibe, but that one smells like Spicoli's van, and you can't wear that if you plan to drive cause you are absolutely getting searched if you get pulled over.

Overall: 8.8

there are fragrances you wear and fragrances that happen to you and this is the second kind. it just kind of moves int you a little bit. I put it on and then I lose track of what I'm doing because I'm at that golden hour moment with the music and the warm air and Amber who smells freaking incredible.

The discontinuation is a Shakespearean level tragedy. I think historians will some day write about it, and Maison Margiela will have to reckon with their god about it.

If you a bottle or a decant it's worth checking out. And let me know.

I'm gonna get back to my snacks and the next episode of One Piece. I really think they're gonna find it, and Loofie is going to be a great king. And now I kind of want some sushi.
