Reflection
From my check-in: In our Skool session today, one of Jim's slides said 'The thing you need most is made by the thing you cannot start'. I had to turn it around - 'the thing you cannot start is becomes the thing you you most need' and that made sense. It twigged the idea of friction for me. On a blank page I wrote two columns: What do I want to do? and What do I have to do? and added across the top '5 Minutes - do the hard thing for 5 minutes'.
And then I did the thing just an hour prior I couldn't do - I made lists of things to do under both columns. Its really important to by brain to externalize the things that need doing and I was just really struggling to do that. Somehow, separating my tasks that way unblocked that struggle.
JT said: Here's why the two columns worked. When "want" and "have to" sit on one list, every item picks up the dread of the worst one, so your brain won't even let you write the list down. Split them and the dread stays in one column. The "5 minutes" line then shrinks the hard thing until it's small enough to start. You didn't push through friction with willpower. You cut it down. And an hour after you couldn't do it, you did it. That goes in your evidence stack.
I just did a bunch of things that have been circling around in my brain, in and out of the fog, for months.
It's a miracle I tell ya, a miracle. I'm buzzing right now, going to go get some movement (I am grateful to be able to do so).
