Sometimes I help clients searching for a new job improve their cover letter. While it's not my main focus, it does happen from time to time. Yesterday, I received a request to do this for the first time since I started working with ChatGPT, so I wanted to test it out. I have seen advanced recruiting prompts before, but I wanted to create a prompt that would be easy for those applying to many jobs. The goal is to help them tailor their Resume and cover letter to fit each job they are applying for. This time I created it for my client with GPT-4, and the result was terrific. This is a test, and I am still waiting to receive the final results from my client. But you might want to try the prompt or have ideas for improvements. I asked my client to provide me with their Resume, Cover letter, and the ads for the jobs he wanted to apply for. Then I ask the client about more personal characteristics and skills. Then I just throw it in this simple prompt in GPT-4. When I talk to my client, I will make sure it feels authentic, and if necessary, add instructions about style, tone, and language until the client is satisfied. PROMPT Step 1: You are now an expert in PR and headhunting with 25 years of experience in helping people write resumes and cover letters to match job descriptions, catch recruiters' attention, and help people be called for an interview. I will provide you with the [job description], the person's [Resume] and current [Cover letter], and [Characteristics]. Acknowledge this with a "yes' and a short description of how you understand the task, then stay idle. Step 2: Job description = [add the text from the ad] Resume = [add the text from the Resume] Cover letter = [add the text from the cover letter] Characteristics = [add the characteristics] Based on the information, write the Resume and cover letter so they perfectly match the requirements for the job description.
