Mixing glazes
We talked about our favorite commercial glazes but who here also mixes some of their glazes? Where do you find your recipes for them? What’s your favorite that you mix? I love John Britt’s glaze book and I also use Glazy.org. Joe Thompson has really good glaze recipes on Glazy.. If you’re just starting out, his first five series is a good place to begin - five basic ingredients plus a colorant. And Glazy is free! I think my favorite that I mix is John’s Floating Blue 2 from John Britt’s book. Whenever I do a show, those are usually the first pieces to go. And if anyone requests a specific glaze, that’s usually it. Don’t get me wrong - I still buy a lot of glazes. But I also have a shelf of glazes I’ve mixed. So let me know. Do you mix any of your glazes? If not, why don’t you try? (That’s a question - why not?)

@Gigi Gaggero I have one of his books but it only has 3-4 recipes. I’ve mixed them and they were nice.

My Visit to Kansas Clay and Bracker’s
Bracker's Good Earth Clays Tour: Every Potter Needs to See This https://youtu.be/jAWFwJ7Fapw Dear Friends, I posted a brief video yesterday of my recent field trip to buy clay I can’t get in Tulsa. I showed up unannounced and they were so excited. They explained their midfire clays and also how they produce their clay. I take you on a quick spin around the shop. They carry everything! You might really find a unique product “ZigSig” interesting. I hope you can watch it and comment. I’m really trying to get more view hours. It’s hard because most of my videos are about this length. Hugs to you all.

@Paul Chenoweth Paul - Terra sig was something we did in one of my college pottery classes. From what I remember, it was fairly easy to make. I wish I still had the piece I made but I don’t even remember what it looked like.

@Hollysan Roques it’s easy to make. Google the recipe and you’ll see what you need and how to do it. It’s mostly waiting for the layers to separate after you mix it.
We Need to Talk 💛
I’m currently watching Angela throw live on my phone — and it’s just the most beautiful thing. Gigi is there, Sarah, Pat, Denise, Mary, Ronda… and Lori from Wandering Soul too. We’re all in the chat together, reacting, cheering her on. And it hit me. We’re all there… but we can’t actually talk to each other. So let’s change that. 💪🏻 What if we start a weekly community call?🪿 We could pick a time that works best for most of us, and then meet once a week right here on Skool. Just one hour. Nothing complicated. Everyone who wants to can share their “Piece of the Week” — something you’re working on, something you finished, a struggle, a question, an idea. You’ll have the space to show your work, ask for feedback, and just connect.✨ No pressure. Just pottery people hanging out, supporting each other. What do you think? Would you join? 💛

@Angela Petty Angela - you didn’t sound at all nervous so you covered it well. Next time will be a lot easier.

It’s 10 AM on the west coast of the US. I looked it up, too, and have my phone timer set. I can run it on my phone, silenced, while I watch it with sound on the tv. I’ll also leave a comment because a good friend who has a channel told me that helps, too. Even if we just leave “hi” it helps. Any of you who need more views - just post it here and I’ll watch. I think I follow all of you with a channel but that way I won’t miss it.

🥚 The Great Egg Question 🥚
Good morning, my sweet little mice ☀️ I’m sitting here with my small pre-work breakfast and suddenly had a very important question… How do you like your eggs? Soft-boiled with a runny yolk? Hard-boiled? Sunny-side up? Scrambled? Poached? Eggs Benedict? Or any other masterpiece? I honestly believe eggs are one of the most nutrient-dense foods in the world. Packed with high-quality protein, healthy fats, choline, vitamins, minerals — they’re simple, but incredibly powerful. And I’m especially grateful to have my own chickens, so I know exactly where my eggs come from and what kind of quality I’m getting. That makes breakfast even better. Now it’s your turn: Show me your breakfast eggs! 🥚✨ And one more important question… Do you use egg cups? 👀 If yes — I want to see your masterpieces! It’s the weekend — maybe you’ve made something beautiful. Drop your egg pictures below! Let’s see what’s cooking in this community 💛

@Melissa Burwood that’s okay. We all like different things. If we didn’t, the world would be a pretty boring place.

I started pottery by making porcelain dolls, then switched to clay over 30 years ago. I’m still learning.
