Buy my first Briefcase, but in which colour?
Hello Fellows, I'm almost done with my traineeship and want to treat myself to a nice reward. I've decided on a classic leather briefcase. It will replace my old school bag, which I've been using to carry my office supplies until now. 😁 After looking at various brands and styles, I've settled on a beautiful old-school leather briefcase from the brand Timeless Resistance. Now, however, I'm really unsure which colour to choose. They offer it in Black, Brown, and Cognac. I've attached photos of each colour. All three look fantastic. I'm leaning toward black though because I plan to carry it while wearing suits, and I always wear black leather shoes with them. Therefore it would match perfectly. That said, the brown and cognac versions look incredibly classic, timeless and somewhat old fashioned. (which I love — old-fashioned is kind of my thing). I'd really love to hear your opinions on this! Thanks and best regards, Leon

@Dr. Jason Cole Thank you! I too like the hocks. The case might get heavy sometimes so this will surely come in handy. I have decided to go with the brown one. The main purpose will be to use it as my every day carry for the office. I have never been in a plane and my future plans (at least regarding work) don’t include air travel at all. 😄

@Morgan John Yes I agree. It is really hard to find quality when shopping online. I hope that the briefcase will be good leather otherwise I will definitely refund it.
Where do you shop?
Especially the European people here. Looking to find a new brand with a nice casual business style. Preferably online shoppable with good quality price relation and some unique flair to it.

In the replies you said that you are from germany. I am too, therefore I maybe can offer some advice here. Personally I tend to stay away from big Chains like: Kaufhof, Modehaus Sinn, Ansons etc. They all carry the same big Brands which are, in my opinion, overpriced and lack quality. Also the big brands often put there logos on the clothing. (Not appreciated) When looking for a Suit I would always go to Suitsupply. They have a great price to quality relation. They are similarly priced with a Suit from Hugo Boss but outperform massively in quality and Style. You can also order nice high waisted Trousers there. They have an Online Shop but also Stores in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and München. Charles Thyrwhit is also great. They offer high quality shirts on a very affordable Price. Better Quality then what you would get from Olymp or Eterna at around 70% of the price. They also have a very nice Selection of knitwear for the colder days and some nice ties that have a classic look to them. The Brand is online only (at least for Germany) and has great customer service. I Hope I could be of service to you.
Rcommendation on where to find quality ties?
I've been buzzing about ties lately, and the RMRS crew has dropped some stellar feedback—big thanks! Spill the beans to the group: where do you snag your favorite ties? Thrift stores are treasure troves for unique finds, but since I rock a suit and tie daily, I’m all ears for your go-to spots—hit me with your best recommendations!

My experience with ties is limited. The ones I bought always fell on the medium price range going from 30-60€. I like to buy them from Charles Thyrwhitt. They have sufficient length and are wider than today’s average. Currently I am thinking about buying some more expensive ones. But I am unsure if it is worth it.
Good Evening Gents, Is Derby a jack of all trade shoe?
I am in for buying a shoe and from the videos and articles, I am not able to get a clear picture (perhaps there is none cause not everything is perfect or a perfect shoe for all events). I am not looking for "master of all" type but something that sits good for formal, semi-formal and casual events, like weddings, business, or just going to super market. But Derby and Loafers seem to be the first choice. I am leaning more towards the Derby with little brogues design at the cap but how well with they pair with Chinos? So, what would be your go to choice for a shoe that you can wear with the following: Chinos, Jeans (straight and slim [not skinny]), and Suits (business and wedding). And I think dark brown would be the the color by default cause black and lighter shade fall on the spectrum of formal and casual respectively. P.S.: I mostly work from home, I don't go out too often and hence, my question. Just something that won't throw the balance off. I mostly have pairs of navy blue chino's, some off-white, camel, black, blue, and brown jeans, grey charcoal suit and navy blue suit. Right now I just use my contrast sneakers (casuals) and black oxfords (formals). Thank you. Good Night.

I think a Derby is very versatile. Yet alone because it is the most popular shoe on the “formal” spectrum. So most people will be used to the look. I also think that it beats the loafer in terms of wearability throughout the year and in business situations. Personally I don’t like the look of double monk straps but if I would wear them I would only do so while wearing a suit or some other kind of formal attire. Best regards
Is this tie knot acceptable?
Hello guys, I used to only wear a Windsor knot, but I want to add some alternatives to my repertoire. This morning, I tried tying a Kelvin knot using an online tutorial. I somewhat succeeded, but I’m unsure about the quality. Could you please review it and tell me if you would deem it acceptable? My biggest problem is with the dimple, should it look this way? Thanks for your advice.

@Michael McDonnell thank you sir! I will try both ways to see which works best for me. Do you have any suggestions for brands to buy quality ties from? I figure those will make it easier to get a god knot and dimple.

@Michael McDonnell thanks for the detailed answer! I will defiantly try thrifting as I actually like wider ties and also wear suits with wider lapels.
