What is Conditioning
What does "conditioning" or "being in shape" mean? Conditioning is a measure of how well an athlete is able to meet the energy production demands of their sport. Conditioning isn't a one-size-fits-all. Just because a football player can't run up and down the basketball court without being winded doesn't mean he isn't conditioned. He's conditioned for football. It's important for us as coaches and trainers to understand this. It can eliminate excess fatigue, and we can maximize output in a detailed way while allowing adequate time for recovery. I'm curious about conditioning techniques/methods you guys may use with your athletes or teams.

First time in the gym with my guys
Thursday, I’ll have like 45 minutes in the gym with some of my varsity players from next year. Mind you this is the first time I’ll see them with a ball in their hands as I’m a first year head coach at a new school. This will also be the first time they’ve touched a basketball since their season ended. Anything I should do with them or any advice to get a good evaluation on them?

What 10 for 10 Hand Hustle drills does everyone recommend for like a pre-practice team workout or would you just recommend going day by day? I’m trying to use some in my ball handling segment in practice.
Freshman Girl wants to improve what’s the plan
When you have a high school girl freshman good athlete comes in how would evaluate her and what would do to get her going. Do you have another come player in that could do things with her so it stays conceptual or do you just do training with her only.

What stuff are you doing in your evaluations? SSGs? 1v1?
Jump roping
What is everyone’s thoughts a good jump roping program. My research shows it being one of the best trainings for a much quicker muscle twitch and quicker feet.

I like this idea. Talked to a few on friends whose coach made them do that before workouts and they loved it. I would be interested to see how to implement it before practice and what reps are sufficient.
