Light grey suit.
Here’s the custom suit I had made during my time in Shanghai. After taking on everyone’s advice from last week, I decided to go with a wool suit instead of linen and I’m genuinely glad I did. I went with a few notable customisations: high-rise trousers with braces, side adjusters, and a slightly longer length that gives what I think is a full break. I’m finding I actually prefer this look, especially paired with my monk-strap shoes. For the lining, I chose a dark paisley. In hindsight, a dark blue paisley might have complemented the subtle blue undertone in the grey fabric even better, but I still think the current choice has plenty of character. I also opted for grey buttons, though I may swap them out for darker grey or black at some point. I’ll live with them for a bit and see how they settle into the overall look. Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out and appreciated all the feedback that helped guide the final decisions.

@Jason Rochester I don't actually know much about pleats. But I will definitely look into them, they don't seem to be particularly common amound tailored suits in Asia. Mind you neither are braces. I love the combination of side adjusters and braces. You can the perfect tightness, I wish I could wear braces all the time. I dislike belts so much.

@Al Voss I will just use my baby blue eyes. They are very exotic in China 😂
Grey wool or chambray linen suit?
I have always loved my light grey suit, however I bought it three years ago and it's starting to wear and it doesn't really fit me any more. So I have decided to buy a new one in Shanghai. Suits are so cheap here I can literally buy one a week, but I have decided to restrict myself to one every two months. So I have had it in my head that I will go to the tailors tomorrow and buy a light grey wool suit. HOWEVER I was looking at suits on instagram, at one of the tailor shops in Bangkok that I have been to and I saw a picture of a really cool grey chambray linen suit. I will add below a photo of me in my original grey suit which was taken about three years ago and a few images of the chambray suit, off instagram. The photos are not the best but you get the idea. Both of the images of the chambray suit are the same colour, which is grey. I think I am looking for everyone's opinion on linen suits. As I can't remember ever actually seeing one in real life. Does anyone here own one? What's your opinion of a chambray linen suit? I understand it wrinkles and it's more casual but that's fine. Your vote and any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Grey wool or chambray linen suit?

Thank you for everyone's comments. I went to the tailor shop this morning and ordered the wool suit. I will post a photo next week after I pick it up. I think after reading everyone's comments I have decided that linen, especially chambray linen is a beautiful material. However it is much better to use it for shirts, not suits. I think I just like the idea of having a textured suit, of which there are better materials such as tweed which I already own. On a side note I have a few loose fitting chambray linen shirts which are great for wearing on hot summer days.
Treated differently
I'm sitting here in the airport thinking about the whole process of getting to the gate and interactions that I've had while here. I believe that I was treated better during check-in and TSA that others and I think it was because of how I am dressed. Just another reason to dress like a gentleman.

I work with a female Chinese teacher here in Shanghai. What I would say is she gives off an intimidating vibe, and I was talking to another teacher about her and she describes her as being scary. She is one of those people that can instantly get angry or maybe fake angry, so the students are always in line with her. Many of the other teachers have commented on this to me as well. What I have noticed is when I wear a suit to work, which is 2 or 3 times a week, she always softens around me and almost gives off a more feminine almost childlike vibe.
Women’s Fashion Through the Eyes of Gentlemen
I want to get your honest thoughts on what men think about women’s style and clothing choices. (There are no right or wrong) With that said, when you think about what a woman is wearing, what makes an outfit appealing or appropriate in different situations — like at work, a night out, or just casually? I’d love to hear not just what you think, but why. For me, what I choose reflects me personally and how I’m feeling that day. Of course, for a special event like a wedding I am dressed for the occasion but with my own personality reflected. Do you think women should dress more for themselves, for comfort, or to meet others’ expectations? Why? I can tell you that I never dress for someone else’s expectations. I know a lot of you post you OOTD, or other days like church or some other reason. No woman has posted an OOTD yet. I might start….but I would like to know how men perceive what women wear. Please share your thoughts. As a Woman I would love the male perspective and input.

I would agree with what most people have been saying about women dressing in a feminine way. I am a teacher in Shanghai and most of the Chinese staff are female and the vast majority dress in a very elegant and feminine way. This is common across Asia. What I would also add is there is this one female teacher who really stands out as she has got on her own style going on. I would describe it as maybe bohemian or 1960's hippy influenced. This is not usually to my taste but she takes control of this and really pulls it off. She also dresses like this everyday and has made this style her own and this fact makes her look super cool and interesting. Most of the other women I work dress well and put the effort in but the outfits they wear have no corrolation to each other. Which is obviously fine, but there is something special about creating and having your own look.
Fashion: The Wonderful World of Rings
I've shared this article from The Art of Manliness a few times when someone has brought up the use, symbolism, and best rings for each finger. I have a few I wear on occasion, but hope to expand upon it in the time ahead (I'm incredibly picky when it comes to rings... and, well, most fashion). What about you gents? Aside from wedding rings, have you ventured into ring land, maybe with a certain blue hedgehog, and tried rings on different fingers? What are your favorites?

I wear a small silver pinky ring on my right hand everyday. I always wear a watch on my left wrist. They balance each other nicely.

I am a 45 year old Secondary History teacher. About 3 years ago I started dressing like gentlemen. I own suits, watches and monk strap shoes.
