[Emerging Trend] Just Add Another Pricing Plan
I recently spoke with our research team at DoWhatWorks, and they shared a fascinating new trend they have uncovered. You have probably all seen a brand have a separate or de-emphasized pricing plan option below the regular plan cards. I have seen these alternative plans from dozens of SaaS, from Zoom to Shopify to Vidyard. Yet when brands A/B test these de-emphasized plans as separate plans, they nearly always test out of them. I included an image of an A/B test from Zoom where they test into just including the basic/free plan as part of the regular set of plans… I included another test from Typeform where they tested out of a de-emphasized enterprise plan, adding back in their enterprise plan to the main plan menu after testing it as a separate section… Back when I worked at Bonjoro, we tested out of having a separate Agency plan for our testimonial product, and we re-added that plan to the main plan cards after we saw a 5-6% drop in Agency plan selection with the de-emphasized option. It’s hard from the data to find a perfect number of pricing plans (although ElevenLabs going with 7 plans might be pushing it).... But the data does seem to show that when brands test having a separate, de-emphasized plan outside of the regular plan cards, they test out of it at a high rate. I share more depth on this and other issues of pricing on my Substack.

I tested 2 variations of this. I tried hiding our free plan, and it almost had no effect. The same amount of people still signed up for free. We think it's because everyone just knew we had a free plan/we were known vs. our competitors to have a free option. When we tried hiding our enterprise plan, we destroyed the mql flow. Lol. Needless to say we turned that off pretty quickly

I have something we're working on right now, actually - we're considering testing pricing columns vs. a table. The table looks and feels more like a small feature comparison chart, easier to see differences across plans. Does anyone have any experience testing or using a table-first layout?
Struggling with high rejection rates after free trial
Hey everyone, We recently launched a new pricing model that includes a 7-day free trial, followed by a monthly subscription. However, when the trial ends and we attempt to charge customers, we’re seeing an almost 90% payment rejection rate. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any suggestions?

@Spyridon Mesimeris Yup I think it could be a stripe thing. You said "signs up to a free trial when charge $1: I'd check to see that you're authorizing $1 and not actually charging them. I wonder if something you're inadvertently doing is looking sketchy to CC companies. I think that's a tactic card scammers use: charge a $1 purchase or something to see if the card is still active.
